A single-phase meter specialist is a position designed to prepare the applicant for a 3 year meterman apprenticeship and, ultimately, into a position as a journeyman meterman. There is no time limit on how long a single-phase meter specialist may stay in this position before an apprenticeship is offered. When an apprenticeship is offered, it will be at a location to be selected by PacifiCorp (the Company) within northern California and southern Oregon.
A single-phase meter specialist may (after completion of appropriate training):
Install, maintain, test single-phase, self-contained residential electronic and electromechanical meters on installations energized at 240V A.C. or less.
Troubleshoot and replace bad order single-phase meters identified in conjunction with company or customer generated special meter work requests.
Investigate and resolve high bill complaints and crossed meters on individual or multi-unit single-phase meter applications.
Perform sample and periodic meter test programs in compliance with manufacturer andANSIstandards for metering.
Investigate unsealed meter conditions and simple meter tampering.
Curriculum will include classroom work, on-the-job training and completion of a skills check-off list to be jointly completed by a journeyman meterman and single-phase meter specialist.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
A high school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess a valid Driver's License.
Basic knowledge of electrical theory and practical and detailed knowledge of construction specifications, electrical codes, rates and service policies.
A passing score of 6 or higher on the NJATC examination.
Evaluation and Selection:
Applicants must pass a mechanical skills/aptitude test administered by PacifiCorp.
Individuals who pass the aptitude test and skills test, must also successfully pass the interview and rating phase. An interview panel will meet with each qualifying applicant and at the completion of the interview, determine a numerically rated score.
The successful candidate must pass a company-paid drug screen and background check, which is processed after a job offer is extended and accepted.
This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
