Plant Summary

Mankato Energy Center is located 80 miles southwest of Minneapolis, MN consisting of (1) Siemens FD4 gas only and (1) Siemens F3 dual fuel CT in 2x1 combined cycle utilizing Nooter-Eriksen HRSG’s, and a Toshiba ST.

Summary of Position Duties

This position performs technical and analytical services essential to the control system and associated equipment (electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic) for the operation of one combined-cycle unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the plant control and electrical systems and completing repairs as necessary. These systems include: digital control system, circuits, power circuits, and control devices on plant equipment outside the control room. Employee will participate in the plant maintenance program as a system owner and document plant maintenance records in a computer based work order system, MAXIMO®.

Job Experience and Education

  • 2-Year College/Technical Degree and/or Navy Nuclear EM/ET training preferred.

  • Two years’ experience in electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation and process controls for power plants preferred.

  • Experience with digital control systems, PLCs, Siemens T3000, CEMS, and Emerson Ovation Control System desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to troubleshoot complex systems.

  • Detailed knowledge of smart instrumentation troubleshooting, repair, and calibration desired.

  • Detailed knowledge of plant control and data acquisition systems desired.

  • Must have good problem solving and analytical skills necessary to determine current / future operating conditions and trends for optimizing plant performance.

  • Must have superior interpersonal skills, proven written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member

  • Knowledge of power plant operation is desired, combined cycle knowledge is preferred.

Other requirements

  • Successful completion of the Technical Aptitude Test for Instrument & Controls Technicians.

  • Must be available for night, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.

  • Respond promptly to emergency call outs when necessary.

  • Occasional travel - Up to 25%.
