Provide the specialized and technical expertise necessary to accurately locate underground electric and gas facilities. Also, provide the technical expertise to complete various assignments with Gas and Electric Operations.


  • Locates underground facilities to provide safe excavation for customers and Company employees and to prevent costly damages and possible serious injury.

  • Responds to emergency locate requests after normal working hours within 45 minutes.

  • Fills out required paperwork to notify appropriate departments of high-profile conflicts.

  • Assists in training new unit employees.

  • Finds and documents the location of facilities to accurately update mapping.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Examples include assisting with surveying, pole inventory, transformer inventory, and clearance review.


Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in civil engineering, land surveying, or equivalent.

  • Three years of locating experience in lieu of the above.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn the equipment used in locating the Company's underground electric and gas facilities.

  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure construction methods.

  • Able to interpret electric and gas distribution and transmission maps along with electric and gas plan and profile sheets.

  • Familiar with personal computers and various software programs.

  • Valid driver's license.
