BWXT is currently seeking an Nuclear Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!
The Advanced Technology Programs (ATP) group at BWXT designs and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, medical isotope solutions, and related systems for internal and external customers. ATP Engineering is seeking a Neutronic Design Engineer to assist in the development of these systems.
The Nuclear Engineer will work as part of a high-performing, innovative, and multi-discipinary team employing an integrated approach for neutronics, thermal hydraulics, mechanical/stress, and safety analysis, to achieve accelerated reactor design development. Source term estimation, shielding, and radiation analysis will also be performed. Participates in the development of novel advanced reactor designs, performing neutronic core design simulations, solving core design challenges and working with thermal, mechanical, and manufacturing groups. Will work alongside experienced core designers to gain experience and familiarity with concepts, challenges, and approaches to solutions.
Depending on the project, and as experience is gained, could support non-core design activities such as criticality analyses, shield design, activation analysis, or support medical isotope projects.
Coordinates with interdisciplinary team, providing data/requirements to other disciplines and receiving data/requirements from them.
A Bachelor's D egree in Nuclear Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is required.
Must have familiarity with neutronics analysis tools and understand basic concepts in neutron physics.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to write and deliver high quality technical reports and documentation, including presentations to customers, regulators, and other organizations.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
