The Advanced Technology (AT) group at BWXT designs and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, medical isotope solutions, and related systems for internal and external customers. AT Engineering is seeking an experienced Nuclear Engineer / Analyst to assist in the development of these systems.
The Nuclear Engineer / Analyst will work as part of a high-performing, innovative, and multi-disciplinary team employing an integrated approach for source term estimation, activation analysis, shielding, and radiation analysis. Neutronics, thermal hydraulics, mechanical/stress, and safety analysis, to achieve accelerated reactor design development will also be performed. Participates in the development of novel advanced reactor designs, primarily focusing on radiation transport and activation analyses.
Performs radiation transport simulations for nuclear criticality, radiation shielding analyses, neutron activation, and radiation-induced material impact assessments.
Supports development of modeling and simulation methods for radiation shielding, activation analyses, and other disciplines like neutronics.
Coordinates with interdisciplinary team, provides data/requirements to other disciplines and receives data/requirements from them.
A Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or Radiation Health Physics from an ABET-accredited university is required.
Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience in radiation transport applications and/or neutron activation and radiation shielding.
Must have demonstrable neutronics analysis skills using core design and analysis codes and tools (e.g., Atilla, MCNP, SCALE).
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to write and deliver high quality technical reports and documentation, including presentations to customers, regulators, and other organizations.
Must be Proficient with MS Office Suite.
Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
