Job Description:

Framatome is seeking an Mechanical Design Engineerfor ourMill Ridge Road location in Lynchburg, VA.

Successful candidate must have a desire to work within a product development group developing advanced, custom software and hardware solutions for use in the nuclear service industry.

The successful candidate will integrate into a multi-discipline team of engineers including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers. Activities range from development of new processes to maintenance of existing systems.

The successful candidate possesses exceptional technical writing skills and mastery of the English language.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated with the ability to work independently. The candidate will mentee with a senior engineer to develop hardware solutions in a variety of fields to meet the needs of robotic tooling required in the nuclear service industry. The candidate will demonstrate adaptability to different development tools as introduced.

The successful candidate thrives in an environment that is fast paced and very much “hands on”.

DESCRIPTION OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate and eventually lead hardware development for various control systems, for projects ranging from small to large.

  • Identify new applications and opportunities to improve existing processes

  • Participate and eventually lead all aspects of the product lifecycle:

o Development of technical requirements

o Evaluating and complying with industry codes and standards (CMAA, ANSI, AWS, ASTM and occasionally ASME)

o Formulation of acceptance criteria

o Writing testing and validation documentation

o Development of user manuals

o Perform acceptance testing in accordance with acceptance criteria

o Overseeing fabrication and construction of equipment

o Overseeing and conducting testing and qualification of equipment

o Support hardware maintenance in the form of improvement implementation and, at times, hands on maintenance

  • Support products by on-site presence

  • Ownership of project budget and scheduling

  • Participate in team environment on medium to large projects.

  • All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. *

  • Engineer II: BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 2-3 years experience in Engineering. Candidates with BSCE, BSMSE or other bachelor of science degree will be considered.

  • Engineer III: BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 3-5 years experience in Engineering. Candidates with BSCE, BSMSE or other bachelor of science degree will be considered.

  • Engineer IV: BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 5-7 years experience in Engineering. Candidates with BSCE, BSMSE or other bachelor of science degree will be considered.

  • Candidate must be proficient in mechanical design

  • Candidate must be mechanically inclined and understand how machines work and how to design them so they are functional, simple to use and service

  • Candidate must be familiar with inter-disciplinary design combining mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronics, electrical, software, etc.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely in oral, written, and presentation formats.

  • Experienced in solid modeling software (Solidworks preferred).

  • The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position. *

  • Other solid modeling experience acceptable (Microstation, Pro-Engineer, Inventor, etc.)

  • Welding, machining and fabrication experience a plus. Familiarity with these processes acceptable, but hands-on preferred.

  • Professional Engineer Certification a plus

  • Candidate should have strong troubleshooting skills and understand mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.

  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for design use in a collaborative design environment

  • Electromechanical or additional courses of study in EE, BSCS or robotics also a plus.

  • Candidate must be familiar with inter-disciplinary design combining mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronics, electrical, software, etc.

*Travel: *Seasonal domestic travel (10%). Typical deployments center around Spring/Fall outage windows and are typically scheduled, but not always.
