BWXT is currently seeking a Fuel Material Development Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA – Ramsey Place location!

BWXT Advanced Technologies is seeking a highly motivated nuclear fuel development engineer with materials expertise to advance the state of the art fuel systems and materials for use in advanced reactor applications.

Job Description/Duties:

  • This position will involve:

  • Development of advanced fuel forms (TRISO, etc.),

  • Material selection and optimization of fuel material architecture,

  • Developing manufacturing and test requirements/specifications,

  • Providing materials engineering support for procurement and manufacturing of components,

  • Evaluating feedback from in-pile testing,

  • Developing technical approaches to support licensing,

  • Supporting core design development,

  • Supporting fuel performance modeling,

  • Providing a strong interface with the BWXT’s TRISO manufacturing team and with national laboratory partners in the development and testing of advanced fuel materials for various applications, and

  • Working with interdisciplinary team of engineers to ensure fuel and moderator solutions meet the overall objectives.

    Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Material Engineering or equivalent (e.g., Nuclear Engineering, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering with materials science background) from an ABET-accredited university is required.

  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the nuclear field with a focus on advanced fuel material development and performance.

  • Must possess an understanding of the interplay between reactor design, fuel development, , advanced fuel materials, and fuel testing / qualification programs.

  • Must possess excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
