The Reactors & Services Business Group:

The Reactors and Services Business Group combines the nuclear reactor design and construction activities and the products and services activities necessary for the maintenance, operation, modernization, and improvement of power plants. It also includes vessel propulsion nuclear reactor and research reactor activities. Framatome is currently constructing four EPR™ reactors, of generation III .

Component, Repair & Replacement (CR&R) is a highly responsive service organization that develops solutions for the challenges of the nuclear industry. We thrive on advancing existing technologies and developing the next one to ensure the long-term, safe operation of an aging nuclear fleet. Our teams use mechanical, electrical, software, and computer design skills to create equipment to replace, remediate, and repair primary system reactor components. The CR&R Tooling Design Engineering Group works closely with our Field Operations, Component Engineering, and Analysis organizations to implement solutions for our utility customers.

Job Description:

Framatome is seeking an Electrical Engineerfor* * the Component Repair and Replacement (CR&R) organization.

The ideal Electrical Engineering candidate must have a desire to work in a fast paced product development team where our primary customer is our Field Operations group who must successfully implement our products at customer sites. Typical applications are remote controlled machining, welding, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), and surface improvement tools. We start with a concept and follow it through fabrication, testing, and its real world usage with an expectation of first time Safety, Quality, and Performance. Typical projects can last from days, to weeks, to months.

The successful candidate must be very hands-on and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment comprised of mechanical engineers and electro-mechanical technicians. Candidate will develop advanced and custom hardware and software supporting a variety of remote equipment. A project might be to simply control a single axis machine tool with a DRO for position while another might be a controlling a custom multi-axis manipulator on a submarine with thrusters, pneumatics, hydraulics, and vision systems with full data acquisition capabilities.


  • Development of hardware and software technical requirements

  • Design of hardware and software for custom control systems

  • Design of controls enclosures and cable assemblies utilizing 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks)

  • Detailed documentation (assembly and detailed drawings packages, wiring diagrams, and operating instructions)

  • Support controls maintenance in the form of reliability improvements and upgrades

  • Identify new applications and opportunities to improve existing processes and equipment

  • Ownership of electrical controls budget and schedule

  • Participate in team environment on all projects

  • Support products at customer sites, when required

  • Seasonal travel (20%), both foreign and domestic, typically in the spring and fall.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

  • Engineer II: BS in EE plus 2-3 years of experience

  • Engineer III: BS in EE plus 3-5 years of experience

  • Engineer IV: BS in EE plus 5-7 years of experience

  • Must be proficient in control system design and programming

  • Must be proficient in analog and digital controls

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and precisely in oral, written, and presentation formats

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position:

  • Electronic circuit design (analog and digital) utilizing OrCAD schematic Capture (or similar)

  • Embedded controls programming experience

  • Preferred programming experience: VB and LabVIEW, additional experience (C#) helpful, but not required

  • Motion control experience

  • Troubleshooting down to the board level of equipment with field experience

  • Candidate should be comfortable with inter-disciplinary design and collaboration combining mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronics, electrical, software, etc.
