Job Description:

Support decisions pertaining to the company’s electric generation portfolio.

Develop forecasts of electric generation operations and costs for each of the company’s generating units using specialized software, internally-developed models, and data analysis tools.

Develop generation resource expansion plans specifying the timing and type of the most cost-effective changes to the generating resources in the company’s generation portfolio. Evaluate proposals for new generating resources.

Conduct system reliability studies to ensure that the company has sufficient generating capacity to serve customers.

Perform financial analyses to evaluate the economics of decisions regarding generation projects.

Develop written reports and testimony for regulatory filings.

Use data science concepts, statistical techniques, and programming languages to develop models and automate processes that improve the company’s ability to process large data sets and solve business problems.

Remain informed on issues within the company and industry that are relevant to planning electric generation systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Good business acumen characterized by the ability to analyze complex information, isolate key issues, and draw logical conclusions.

Good decision-making skills (i.e., ability to define a problem, develop alternative solutions, identify key uncertainties, and apply logically correct reasoning in formulating a recommendation).

Understanding of statistical concepts used to evaluate risk and uncertainty.

Understanding of advanced Microsoft Excel concepts/tools (e.g., pivot tables, data tables).

Experience with data analysis programming languages, relational databases, and data processing techniques and software (e.g., using Python, R, SAS, and SQL).

Good communication and technical writing skills.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Work Conditions:

Normal office environment; however, occasional outdoor field visits required.

Required Education & Experience:

A bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering, statistics, math, economics, data science, computer science, or business with an aptitude for using technology to automate processes and solve business problems.
