IT Systems Engineer-Infrastructure Services

Job Description:

Troubleshoots and resolves infrastructure hardware and software problems for multi-user computer platforms. Assists in problem resolution activities and resolves elementary technology issues.

Installs and maintains infrastructure hardware and software. Follows standard practices for ongoing support and maintenance.

Assists in performance monitoring, tuning, availability, security, and capacity planning of multi-user computer platforms.

Assists with engineering, design, and project management of multi-user computer platforms. Develops and maintains diagrams documenting systems.

Assists in technology evaluation and selection processes, ensuring compatibility between client requirements and technical performance. Documents analysis and recommendations.

Effectively communicates with clients, peers and management by blending appropriate levels of technical and business detail to ensure issues are thoroughly understood by his/her audience.

Develops and maintains relationships with clients, peers, vendors and management.

Works in conjunction with IT Security to ensure that company security is not compromised.

Supports NERC-CIP compliance and ensures that electronic and physical security policies are followed. When working on NERC-CIP designated systems, adhere to the defined NERC-CIP procedures that includes documenting and evidencing all changes to the infrastructure hardware or software.

Assists in development of satisfactory backup and restore practices as well as disaster recovery planning and testing.

Assists in establishing processes and procedures that improve efficiency and support compliance with federal and regulatory requirements.

Assists in the reporting of Service Level Agreements and Key Service Indicators to management.

Assists in managing cost and budget forecasting for Capital and Operational and Maintenance activities.

Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possesses entry level knowledge of various technologies and demonstrates the ability to leverage and appropriately integrate those technologies within the current environment. Balances technology integration alternatives with consideration to both technical efficiency and effectiveness.

Continuing education courses/technical seminars. A successful academic and work background indicating a demonstrated ability to absorb information, apply conceptual skills in practical applications, achieve desired results in a highly technical, operating environment. Incumbent must effectively deal with the rapid technological and business change while maintaining enthusiasm and displaying sound judgment.

Work Conditions:

Normal office environment with some visits to fields locations.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or an alternate combination of education and experience which results in the equivalent job knowledge and skills. Zero or more years of technical support and multi-user computing platform experience.

Position Purpose:

Under supervision, responsible for activities related to infrastructure hardware and software associated with one or more technical areas such as, but not limited to, infrastructure design, engineering, computer hardware, operating systems, Third party products, Enterprise Application Administration, implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance or operations/user support.

This position will require a strong focus on IT security, as it will involve the support, implementation and evaluation of security tools meant to strengthen initiatives supporting our company’s Enterprise Security vision. Strong Linux administration skills are preferred, as it will be core to support of implemented security technologies.
