LG&E and KU Energy Craft-Worker Intern I - Substation Technician in Louisville, Kentucky
Perform maintenance activities as required to maintain, repair, inspect, install, rebuild, construct, and troubleshoot various substation equipment.
Learn OSHA and company safety rules, procedures, and practices.
Learn the proper use of hand tools, power tools, hoist, drill presses, grinders, and other tools and equipment pertaining to the work.
Assist employees in carrying out work assignments.
Clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material, supplies and equipment in connection with the work and work area.
Be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
Prepare and take the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) CAST test measuring job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis and 50 lbs. from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, lifting bars, valves; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on an hourly basis.
Mix of field and shop work. Includes exposure to the elements (heat, cold, rain, wind etc.). Work may include heights (ladders, platforms, stairs, etc.) and proximity to high-voltage electricity.
Required Education & Experience:
Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in a technical field. Applicable degree fields include Engineering and Electronics Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Automation & Robotics Technology, or a related field.
Minimum 2.50 GPA.
