A Compliance and Support Civil Engineering Intern assists with civil engineering, land surveying, and related areas. We’re looking for someone who can maintain a high degree of situational awareness to meet continually changing conditions with a fresh and adaptable approach. In this position, you will be given the opportunity to work alongside peers in both the office and the field who are versatile, enthusiastic, and strive to push forward AECC’s mission.



  • Assist with field collection of level and total station survey data, piezometer, and inclinometer data at three hydroelectric generation and other substation facilities. Complete office reduction and preparation of lengthy FERC and COE compliance reports from these data sets using Word and Excel. Assist as needed with headrace and tailrace depth soundings (from boat), hydrographic data reduction and contour mapping of underwater surfaces.

  • Utilize ESRI Arc GIS for preparation of PSC filing exhibits, landowner maps, and other transmission corridor routing needs.

  • Assist in right-of-way and easement filings and check existing records for completeness.

  • Assist in transmission line routing, including frequent field trips to inspect line route options and clearing and construction progress by truck and or UTV/ATV.

  • Under supervision, assist with specifying and ordering testing equipment, tools, and other material for surveying and construction projects.

  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, or a related discipline.

  • Prior electric utility experience desirable but not required.

  • Valid state driver’s license

  • Prior ESRI GIS experience desirable but not required.

  • Technologically adept to advanced Word and Excel skills.

  • Exceptional analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Extremely detailed and accuracy oriented.

  • Exceptional writing skills.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Extremely detailed and accuracy oriented.

  • Self-starter and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Able to work as needed both in the field and office, including all weather conditions and occasional overnight stays.
