Provide overall leadership, management and direction for BHE Nebraska Natural Gas field operations.

SALARY RANGE: $110,450 - $182,350 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Coordinate personnel and resources to:

  • optimize gas distribution system growth, performance, reliability, and safety

  • meet the needs of the strategic plan

  • provide quality customer service

  • maintain safe working conditions and practices by ensuring safety is the top priority for employees

  • lead/participate and enable continuous improvements and best practices for Nebraska gas and BHC utilities

  • attain statewide goals.

  • Assist in preparation and define:

  • Nebraska strategic plan, including growth plan development

  • the five-year forecast for distribution,

  • operations and maintenance programs (DIMP/TIMP)

  • annual distribution capital and operating budgets

  • emergency plan documentation/training

  • SWP action initiatives

  • Speak-up action initiatives

  • Adhoc or assigned committees, teams, or projects that function across multiple geographies

  • Corporate initiatives that span natural gas operations on an enterprise-wide basis.

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with:

  • approved goals/objectives

  • safety standards of performance

  • safety programs

  • bargaining unit contracts/relationships

  • capital and operating budgets

  • construction standards

  • company policies, procedures, and current bargaining agreement

  • externally required regulations (NFGC, OSHA, EPA, PHIMSA, IUB, etc…)

  • project schedules/productivity.

  • Review and approve work orders, and various permits.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to Nebraska BHE Managers/Supervisors on operational matters.

  • Foster a culture of employee involvement in decisions.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to all operations employees.

  • Develop future leaders from all levels of the organization.

  • Provide employee and supervisor feedback and coaching throughout the year; assess needs for employee training and work with appropriate Company resources to obtain it.


  • Serve as co-primary company representative for Nebraska employee / labor relations issues.

  • Lead and grow Nebraska SG/Tech Services business.

  • Ability to travel on company business as required.


  • Ten or more years of relevant experience required. Increasingly progressive leadership and management in the utility field strongly preferred. Engineering and/or operation emphasis preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field of study preferred.

  • PE certification desirable.


  • Knowledge of gas distribution system construction, operations, maintenance standards, procedures and governmental regulations.

  • Demonstrated experience with collective bargaining agreements and their application in the workplace.

  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor and accomplish strategic goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct workload and prioritize business needs.

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to articulate, communicate and influence.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple major projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrate the ability to represent the Company in front of various stakeholder, employee groups, major customers and regulatory agencies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously (67% or more) required to: use fingers and hands, communicate, and have close visual acuity. Employee is frequently (34-66%) required to: reach, push/pull, ascend/descend stairs, position self to access lower items, and move about the office. Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level, and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height, or close quarters. Must be capable of up to 50% travel (e.g. 2 weeks or 10 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.
