General Purpose

A Utility Clerk is an employee who represents the company while working in an office setting in a service center and also outdoors in the field. The core duties of this position are administrative in nature, and the applicant must demonstrate basic clerical skills, which will include keyboard proficiency, office etiquette as well as oral and written communication skills. The determination of these qualifications will be done by test. The successful candidate is expected to progress through a two-year Company-provided training program on various computer systems and processes. The successful candidate may also be assigned various field activities such as meter reading and working as part of a line crew.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of office and field related tasks to support day-to-day operations at an electric utility. Some essential duties include customer communication, meter reading, project tracking, data base entry and payroll processing. Other duties may include:

  • Manage emails, letters, packages, phones calls and other forms of correspondence.

  • Process paperwork for internal or external use across various work groups.

  • Organize and maintain project data to assist management with reporting requirements.

  • Assist other employees and management as needed to meet team objectives and deliverables.

  • May work as a groundman on a line crew, assisting line personnel with electrical system construction and maintenance activities.

  • Perform meter reading, meter connections and disconnections as assigned.

  • Ability to work overtime during emergency operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Two years customer service experience.

  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite.

  • Must be detail oriented but with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.

  • Successful in passing clerical aptitude test as well as a typing test at 30 WPM - required.

  • Ability to clearly communicate in person, in writing and over the phone.

  • Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions as needed.

Preferences

  • Have three to five years of experience in a Utility Field Operations environment.

  • Have two or more years of experience as a Group or Administrative Assistant.

  • Previous experience with SAP software and the ability to quickly learn proprietary software systems.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Proficient and accurate use of 10 key.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
