LG&E and KU Energy Craft-Worker Intern I - Telecommunications Technician in Lexington, Kentucky


Job Description:

  • Perform maintenance activities as required to maintain, repair, inspect, install, rebuild, construct, and troubleshoot various telecommunications equipment.

  • Perform duties associated with VOIP telephony, IP routing and switching equipment, microwave/fiber optics transmission equipment, two-way radios, substation equipment, and other cutting-edge technologies.

  • Learn to understand basic documentation and schematic drawings.

  • Learn OSHA and company safety rules, procedures, and practices.

  • Assist employees in carrying out work assignments.

  • Clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material, supplies and equipment in connection with the work and work area.

  • Prepare and take the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) TECH test measuring job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Effort:

Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis and 50 lbs. from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, lifting bars, valves; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on an hourly basis.

Work Conditions:

Mix of field and shop work. Exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, etc. Frequent standing and walking.

Required Education & Experience:

Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in a technical field. Applicable degree fields include Engineering and Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Minimum 2.50 GPA.
