LG&E and KU Energy Craft-Worker Intern I - Telecommunications Technician in Lexington, Kentucky
Perform maintenance activities as required to maintain, repair, inspect, install, rebuild, construct, and troubleshoot various telecommunications equipment.
Perform duties associated with VOIP telephony, IP routing and switching equipment, microwave/fiber optics transmission equipment, two-way radios, substation equipment, and other cutting-edge technologies.
Learn to understand basic documentation and schematic drawings.
Learn OSHA and company safety rules, procedures, and practices.
Assist employees in carrying out work assignments.
Clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material, supplies and equipment in connection with the work and work area.
Prepare and take the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) TECH test measuring job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis and 50 lbs. from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, lifting bars, valves; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on an hourly basis.
Mix of field and shop work. Exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, etc. Frequent standing and walking.
Required Education & Experience:
Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in a technical field. Applicable degree fields include Engineering and Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Minimum 2.50 GPA.
