Lakeland Electric Swimming Pool Operator in Lakeland, Florida

This position is responsible for assisting in the complete operation and maintenance of the City of Lakeland aquatics facilities and keeping the environment healthy and safe for public use. The position also assists the Aquatic Supervisor with any other duties as assigned. This posting will close after the receipt of the first 25 qualified applicants or 1 week, whichever comes first. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: * Maintains the health and safety of all users of the facilities and all employees. * Assists in supervising the enforcement of rules, regulations, and policies to all guests, groups and organizations. * Ensures the proper maintenance, repair and troubleshooting for all aquatic facilities, including but not limited to, pool pumps/motors, plumbing, piping and general repair knowledge. * Maintains the cleanliness and chemical balance of aquatic sites. * Assists in the operational duties of staff at respective aquatic sites. * Maintains water chemistry balance by measuring pool chemical components and calculating appropriate chemical additives. * May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department. * Position is designated Mission Critical. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: * Certified in CPR/First Aid/AED. * Assists in the development and supervision of programs and special events. * Assists in public relations, including but not limited to, guest speaking engagements and educational sessions. * Performs related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: * High school diploma from an accredited school or its equivalent. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. * Must maintain a valid telephone number. * Must be able to pass swim test. * Completion of the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Licensed program within six (6) months of hire date. * Must pass physical examination, drug and alcohol related examinations, and all background checks as required by the City of Lakeland. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Considerable knowledge of chemicals and water chemistry, including the effects of specific environments to water and chemicals. * Knowledge of the care, upkeep and preventive maintenance of aquatic facilities. * Skill in operating a variety of equipment, hardware and tools/implements; completes work projects with maximum efficiency. * Skill in office related tasks such as, accurate record keeping, documentation, concise letter writing skills, statistical tracking, informational log entries, organizational skills and computer systems skills. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, other City employees and the general public. * Ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled and unskilled employees in the proper operation and documentation of aquatic facilities. * Ability to work independently of others and utilize critical thinking skills to solve problems. * Ability to utilize formulas and conversion factors related to addressing the chemical content of a pool. * Ability to read and interpret manuals and policies required for swimming pool operations. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Requires active work that involves walking, standing, stooping, bending or climbing for at least seven (7) hours per day, working in confined spaces daily, ladder usage and working at heights up to twelve (12) feet daily. * Requires lifting up to 75 pounds of force daily to include unloading, restocking and adding supplies on a recurring basis. * The job risks exposure to bright/dim light, chemicals, bloodborne pathogens and environmental hazards. * The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, texture perception and routine keyboard operations.
