Position Specific Description

The Systems Planning Manager with GridLiance reports directly to the Executive Director, System Transmission Planning and serves as technical expert on transmission planning studies, including development, analysis, and reporting in support of company goals. Responsibiltiies will include working with Operations and Engineering to manage, direct, and conduct transmission studies for construction, operations and maintenance purposes. You will also collaborate with the Corporate Development team and develop plans to support acquisitions, partnership development and support new transmission development. Other responsibilities will also include developing transmission reports with mitigation plans and transmission owner/planner documents for compliance purposes. This well-rounded person will actively participate in RTO planning processes.

Responsibilities:

• Support company’s transmission project development, acquisition and operations activities in the area of electric transmission.

• Identify transmission system needs/opportunities and provide solutions for reliability and economic enhancements to the transmission system to further company’s transmission development initiatives utilizing transmission system and production cost modeling software.

• Perform power system modeling including electrical load flow, short circuit, and transient stability studies. Perform or coordinate power system economic modeling including production cost simulation studies. Perform 7-factor analysis.

• Coordinate, review, and interpret transmission studies (short circuit, transient stability, and load flow) performed by utilities and outside consultants.

• Provide technical support for project development and acquisition activities in the evaluation of transmission system issues within the various NERC and RTO regions.

• Assist in the development of transmission strategies.

• Support transmission asset operations and regulatory compliance related activities.

• Represent company’s interests on appropriate regional and national policy making committees, work groups, or task forces.

• Keep abreast of FERC regulations regarding transmission policies, Open Access Transmission Tariffs and the evolution of ISO and RTO transmission strategies.

Highly Preferred Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required

• Master’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering or an MBA (preferred)

• Registered Professional Engineer (preferred)

• Thorough knowledge of electric power system network analysis (including the use of power system software such as PSS/E or PSLF), transmission planning and assessment techniques, and transmission system reliability standards

• 5+ years technical and/or professional experience.

• Ability to work independently from home and in a team environment with minimal supervision.

• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

• Demonstrated experience in building external relationships and leading commercial deals from identification to close

• Must have leadership experience collaborating with senior leaders

• Demonstrated ability to effectively earn credibility with team and other key business stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Hands-on strategic approach and team player mentality with high degree of accountability.

Location - must be near a NEET office location. (Juno Beach, FL, Irving, TX, Clifton Park, NY or San Francisco, CA). Remote options may be considered for regionally appropriate locations.

Job Overview

Employees in this position analyze and evaluate the performance of company transmission systems, recommend improvements and evaluate the performance of potential transmission system expansion strategies supporting system reliability and market efficiency.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifies system operating conditions in consultation with system operations personnel that require planning attention and potential remediation

  • Directs consultants in the preparation of modeling and analysis to develop long-term transmission system plans addressing needs of the grid and market

  • Tracks requirements and executes system planning studies and other compliance activities to meet all pertinent regulatory and NERC compliance obligations for designated transmission planning entities

  • Performs or directs generator interconnection studies

  • Supports management in interfacing with grid operators, public utility commissions and other transmission providers, regional planning groups, and stakeholder groups in development of system expansion strategies and projects

  • Provides technical support to licensing and certification proceedings related to new transmission lines and switchyard/substation sites

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
