Position Specific Description

The team has developed a cloud-based, time-series database that consumes over four million tags from 600 NextEra assets and serves the data via Excel, Ignition, Web Trender, cloud analytics tools, and various in-house applications. The system feeds data to nearly 3,500 internal and external customers including critical control, operations, and diagnostics centers. Responsibility will include improving the cloud Ignition architecture as well as enhancing custom Java modules associated with Ignition for visualization purposes

  • 3+ Experience with IoT systems such as Ignition

  • 4+ years of experience building software applications in Java

  • Experience creating CI/CD pipelines for all processes

  • Experience with SQL databases such as Postgres

  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, and other Development tools

  • Experience using AWS services such as EC2, ALB, ECR, CF

  • Experience working with docker containers

  • Working knowledge integrating apps with RESTful APIs

  • Demonstrated knowledge of automating tasks using scripting languages such as Python

  • Having a track record of managing enterprise-wide application(s)

  • Strong analytical and leadership skills

  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and Edge computing

  • Basic understating of industrial protocols such as OPC, Modbus, MQTT

Job Overview

Employees in this position define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software to help the business unit improve reliability, and drive efficiencies. This position works individually, and as part of a team using best practices in software development methodologies. Employees collaborate with other areas to understand requirements and drive continuous improvement of Smart Grid software applications.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports daily system operations within a specify discipline on a continual basis

  • Writes, translates, and codes software programs and applications consistently to specifications and development standards per specific discipline

  • Writes programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of company applications as necessary

  • Assists in defining software development project plans, including scopes, schedules, and implementation

  • Liaises with network administrators, systems analysts, database administrators, external vendors, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems

  • Develops an understanding of relevant system administration tasks including backup/recovery of systems and disaster recovery

  • Designs, runs and monitors software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging

  • Conducts research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement, development and maintenance efforts

  • Meets attendance and storm duty requirements and has the ability to work extended hours

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED

  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience

  • Experience: 5+ years

  • Master’s Degree

  • Six Sigma Master Black Belt
