Position Specific Description

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing tools, software and architectures that operationalize the EverBright software and hardware platforms. You will be responsible for applying your software and cloud expertise to enhance our industry-leading financial modeling, sales, and operations platform, facilitating seamless solar, storage, and energy efficiency installations for homeowners. You will play a critical role is scaling our application to meet the needs of our growing customer base.

Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. You will also be responsible for designing and implementing robust and scalable infrastructure alongside other team members. In addition to technical expertise, you should have strong leadership and communication skills to effectively lead and mentor junior engineers on the team, and help set the technical direction for projects. You should be comfortable working in an agile development environment and have experience with agile methodologies.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge software solutions that enhance our financial modeling, sales, and operations platform for solar, storage, and energy efficiency projects

  • Drive collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product management, sales, and operations, to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless integration of features and improvements

  • Spearhead initiatives to optimize platform performance, scalability, and reliability, adhering to best practices and industry standards for software development while promoting a culture of technical excellence

  • Actively monitor and engage with the latest technological advancements and trends in solar financing, energy, and software development to maintain the platform's competitive edge in the industry

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that emphasizes innovation, growth, and the sharing of knowledge and expertise

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in software development

  • Proven track record of leading the design, development, and implementation of complex software solutions, preferably in financial modeling, sales, or operations platforms

  • Strong proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, JavaScript, C++, or Java, and experience with front-end and back-end web development technologies

  • Demonstrated expertise in software architecture patterns, such as microservices, MVC, and RESTful APIs, along with experience in cloud platforms and services, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen ability to design efficient algorithms and optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability

  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior team members effectively

  • Familiarity with solar financing, energy efficiency, or renewable energy industries is a plus, as well as experience in Agile methodologies and project management tools

Job Overview

This position provides technical software project leadership including, but not limited to defining system architecture, guiding design of the system's software and writing code as part of the implementation team and mentors less experienced team members. Employees in this role work with the product team to plan work and typically serve as Technical Lead of projects. Individuals in this position provide technical advice to higher levels in the organization.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Codes in multiple languages in support of software products and the development of software products

  • Leads software system architecture projects

  • Mentors others in efficient software design

  • Leads project-level sized teams including assigning work, answering technical project questions, helping other software engineers overcome challenges and mentoring less experienced software engineers

  • Communicates with varying levels within and outside the organization including clearly reporting status in meetings and in other forums, describing systems to audiences of all technical abilities, communicating task assignments to team members, refining requirements and helping to facilitate project planning with the product team, assisting with software project demos and reporting results

  • Provides input on software and technology decisions across an entire project and potentially participates in higher level meetings concerning software and IT architecture

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
