Position Specific Description This position supports the senior archaeologist and other Environmental Services staff in matters related to environmental permitting concerning archaeology and cultural resources issues.
Primary responsibilities include: reviewing consultant work related to archaeology and paleontology on NextEra (NEE) wind, solar, transmission, and gas infrastructure projects throughout the US and Canada; assisting with strategy, mitigation and risk management/avoidance on archaeological issues; providing quality assurance reviews and technical assistance during field work and agency reporting to minimize cost or schedule delays; supporting agency and stakeholder interactions; supporting NEE Tribal Relations section and cultural resource dialogue with relevant Native American Tribes.
The successful candidate will possess a wide range of skill sets including: demonstrated expertise in Cultural Resources Management including historic/prehistoric archaeology, historic structures and buildings, historic landscapes and Traditional Cultural Properties; thorough understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR 800); and demonstrated experience using ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth or other geospatial software. The successful candidate will also possess experience and understanding of the cultural resource issues in the Midwest, Plains, Great Basin, or Southwestern US and have relevant archaeological field and laboratory experience. Should either already be a member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists or qualify to join within six months of hire. Some paleontology expertise is a plus. We are looking for candidates with strong written and oral communication skills, including speaking in public forums, and the ability to respectfully consider Native American/Aboriginal cultural resource preservation perspectives.
Travel to project and meetings is expected up to 50% of the time, often on short notice. Remote work will be considered.
This job is responsible for obtaining environmental approvals, licenses and permits for construction and operation of new and existing NextEra, Inc. facilities from Federal, State and Regional agencies. Job Duties & Responsibilities

- Monitors and analyzes environmental policies and regulations that affect the company and its customers
- Provides the necessary support to staff to resolve environmental matters
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
