About the Opportunity

This position is responsible to perform various payroll-related activities to support the payroll function of Corporate Human Resources.

The Payroll team is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of the company payroll process in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations. The team is also responsible for maintaining the Payroll system configuration and table values that reflect the needs of the client community and generate accurate and compliant payrolls. They provide advice and support to Field HR personnel, and assist internal and external customers through the Payroll Help Desk and Payroll Mailbox.

This position reports to the Supervisor, Payroll and is located at any FE location within the FE Service territory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze and process Direct Deposit Forms, State Tax Information and Federal Income Tax for pensioners.

  • Maintain spreadsheet listing the deaths of pensioners who have been overpaid and reverse the results through SAP after recovery of the overpayments.

  • Send requests to the bank asking for money to either be deleted from the file, or to reverse the payment that was made to the pensioner after they passed.

  • Stop payments on checks that have been verified through the bank account as being uncashed for deceased pensioners

  • Deduct overpayments from what is due to the surviving spouse.

  • Daily verification of the pension bank accounts. Research why money has been rejected back into our pension bank account and reprocess those payments if necessary

  • Update State taxes when pensioners move from one state to another

  • Run the monthly pension payroll process

  • Run reports during processing to ensure to the best of our ability that Federal and State taxes are being processed correctly based off the information keyed by the pension and benefits department.

  • Balance the amounts being reversed in SAP each month to the death spreadsheet to ensure the pension fund is receiving their money.

  • Balance the deductions being made to the surviving spouse payments

  • Run the funding process for the Qualified pension and manually enter previous year collection of overpayments and update spreadsheet for Treasury’s entries

  • Fund the NonQual payroll through SAP for both direct deposits and checks

  • Process 3rd party taxes and FI posting for NonQual pension payments

  • Process Off Cycle checks for payments that were not keyed or manual checks for payments that cannot go back through SAP

  • Entries made at end of year for 1099 balancing

  • Provide excellent customer service when working with pensioners to help them to understand the implications of their choices.

  • Support active payroll as necessary


  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum 7 years work experience required with experience in an administrative position preferred. Payroll experience a plus.

  • Must pass company Support and Administrative Selection System (SASS) testing

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). SAP experience preferred.

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to handle complicated processes

  • Strong sense of customer service and ability to be proactive with customer needs

  • Strong ability to multitask and be flexible

  • Ability to handle confidential information

We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies.
