About The Position

System Relay Services Engineer is responsible for Managing and/or providing engineering support to assist and train SRS Relay personnel engaged in testing and maintenance of protective relaying, control schemes, SCADA equipment, and other assigned tasks. The Ameren Missouri electric system includes distribution, large customer, and transmission substations; switchyards and energy centers including Osage, Callaway, and Regulated Combustion Turbine Generator facilities located in Missouri and Illinois.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide field engineering and technical support to field test crews and supervisors performing construction and routine relay maintenance and testing activities in AmerenMO substations.

  • Provide field engineering and technical support to field test crews and supervisors performing construction and routine relay maintenance and testing activities at Callaway, Osage, and Regulated Combustion Turbine Generator facilities.

  • Analyze field test results and determine the operability of power system equipment and relay schemes.

  • Support SRS personnel working emergency trouble calls during off-hours when necessary.

  • Design tests for and assist in the progress of special investigations to troubleshoot relaying and control scheme problems.

  • Assist in the development and presentation of training material for field test personnel.

  • Program and commission SCADA remote terminal units and associated system monitoring equipment.

  • Two or more years of utility experience with specific knowledge of protective relaying or substation and energy center/combustion turbine facility control schemes preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required. Strong academic background in power systems and computer engineering preferred. Utility experience with specific knowledge of protective relaying or substation and energy center/combustion turbine facility control schemes preferred.

Security screening and training required to maintain unescorted access to the Callaway Energy Center and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) locations.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Applicant must possess excellent analytical, communication, computer, human relations, and leadership skills. Proficiency in Windows-based software such as Excel and Access required. Enoserv RTS/PowerBase experience preferred. Travel to Ameren substations and energy centers required. Subject to call-outs, nights, weekends and/or holiday work to support emergencies or continuation of day projects.
