JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Performs a wide variety of engineering activities associated with transmission line maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations activities in the MS Transmission Grid organization. This includes routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties associated with transmission line systems and operations. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and conduct independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Devises new approaches to solving problems.

  • Perform advanced engineering studies and analysis that may be applied to Entergy’s transmission system.

  • Possess advanced knowledge of the NESC, NEC, and/or other national codes and standards.

  • Provide opinion and advice associated with national codes and Entergy design standards.

  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.

  • Advise and consult with other field engineering and operations personnel on complex technical matters.

  • Work with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.

  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.

  • Perform both planned and unplanned aerial patrols to identify transmission line issues and damages and effectively communicate patrol information back to group.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) from a four-year accredited institution.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Engineer I: 0-2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.

  • Engineer II: 2+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.

  • Engineer III: 4+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.

  • Engineer Sr: 6+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Technical mastery of engineering principles.

  • In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area.

  • Experience in transmission line and power system design and analysis.

  • Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions.

  • Mentors other engineers and technical professionals.

  • Good leadership skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent math skills.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software.

  • Familiar with National Electrical Safety Codes and National Electrical Code and applications.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.

  • Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.

  • Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent computer skills; Knowledgeable in MS Office toolkit

  • Experience with PLS-Cadd transmission line design software or similar programs

  • Self-motivated with ability and desire to make good decisions

  • Able to work cross-functional with other personnel, departments and organizations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
