The Accounting Analyst performs technical and administrative tasks demonstrating a complete understanding of principles, theories and concepts of accounting applicable to the systems or functions being performed. The scope of responsibility requires the individual to assimilate data from various sources, analyze the data, and recommend solutions.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Candidates must be able to work both independently and in a team environment to help the department remain successful in meeting the required objectives. Responsibilities and assignments may include:

  • Recording Monthly Journal Entries

  • Completing Monthly Account Reconciliations

  • Completion of process steps critical to the month end close process

  • Completion of monthly operating and maintenance expense analytics

  • Regulatory reporting requirements for FERC and MPSC

  • Work closely with external auditors to support quarter and year end audit requests

  • Perform Sarbanes Oxley testing to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements

  • Creating and updating master data and assessment in SAP.

  • Other General Accounting Activities


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related area.

The Accounting Analyst Job Family is utilized primarily in the Controller’s department. Performing all of the accounting functions for the Company including but not limited to: Financial Accounting – Month, Quarter, Year-end journal entries, reconciliations, financial statement preparation and analysis; Management Accounting – budgeting, forecasting, financial statement preparation and analysis; Compliance – internal controls, SOX, and other compliance roles; Management Accounting – support business decision making with budgets, forecasts, cost analysis, performance reporting such as KPIs and Dashboards, project analysis, ROI, NPV, and IRR.

Nature of Work

The essence of the work that is performed by the Accounting Analyst Job Family is a wide variety of accounting functions, involving following generally accepted accounting practices and using accepted accounting theory.

At the lowest level in this job family, the work performed may tend to be of a routine and less complex nature where the work responsibilities can be proficiently performed after a relatively short training period.

At the highest levels in this job family the work performed will tend to be of a complex nature involving knowledge of various functional/specialized disciplines where the work responsibilities can only be proficiently performed after a relatively long training / experience-related time period and often requires an advanced degree. The work environment often includes dealing with risk and limiting exposure.

Leadership, management, facilitation and interaction with senior management will be markedly increased at the mid - highest levels of this job family while the need for direction and supervision will be markedly decreased. While problem solving and analysis will likely be required at all levels, recommendation and implementation becomes the norm at the highest levels and will often have a major bearing on the company’s business. In addition, skills such as the ability to think on your feet, composure under fire and effective communication across all levels of the organization and with outside stakeholders become more finely honed at the higher levels.

Essential Functions

Oversee the management of general ledger, production of periodic reports, year-end financial reporting, and coordination of the accounting and reporting close schedules with departments. Ensure effective communication to facilitate and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Act as liaison to internal and external auditors and participate in auditing projects or provide information and access to accounting records. Responsible for the accuracy of financial records by conducting ongoing review of policies and procedures with state and federal regulations, code, ordinances, CAAP, GAGAS and BARS. Supervise and coordinate the activities of a designated unit; determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and determine methods for expediting work flow; assigns, reviews and approves the work of subordinate staff. Review accounting pronouncements issued by various regulatory bodies, such as the GAAP Board, and recommend revision to policies and procedures. Assist Accounting Manager with planning and implementation of financial projects and programs. Maintain records of all fund activities; analyze and reconcile fund charges and recommend necessary adjustments. Analyze, interpret, and verify financial documents and reports; make corrections and update as necessary. Regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite is expected.

Hours and Travel

Some occasional travel required for off-site meetings, training or between company locations. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
