Reports To: Director of Engineering & Training

Job Summary: This position will assist the Engineering Department with various tasks including AutoCAD print updating, arc flash studies and protective relay device coordination.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in Power Transmission, Distribution, and Generation

  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment

  • Point-to point wiring schematic knowledge

  • Assist in power system studies including relay settings and protective device coordination

  • Assist in power engineering studies including arc flash, labeling, arc flash training, short circuit coordination studies and reliability studies

  • Gather data for performing various engineering studies

  • Create and modify prints and drawings

  • Prepare estimates and project take offs for proposals

  • Review and correct engineering reports

  • Ability to assist in field service substation maintenance work as needed

  • Must be willing to take calls and give technical advice outside the normal work day

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD

  • SKM Power Tools knowledge is a plus, must be willing to learn

  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems

  • Must have excellent attention to detail

Work Environment:

  • Some work will be in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations

  • Must be willing and able to work regular overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays

  • Must be willing and able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town jobs

  • Must be willing to rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 pounds

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, stoop, climb, shovel; work at elevated positions

  • Must be willing and capable of working with your hands and working in the field

Education and Work Experience:

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Previous Power Engineering experience helpful, but not required

  • Prefer experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly and commissioning

  • NETA certified a plus, but not required

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background, education verification, motor vehicle report, physical abilities test and an approved hair and urine drug screen

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Must be willing to obtain a company paid TWIC card, OSHA 10 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, and CPR training
