What You'll Do

JOB TITLE: Pipeline Engineer

NorthStar Energy Services is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Pipeline Engineer to join the Professional Engineering Consulting team. The successful candidate will collaborate with an experienced team of professional engineers and designers who specialize in Energy Projects.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Pipeline Engineer for this position is responsible for the development of mechanical design parameters including design concept, engineering criteria, equipment specifications, equipment selections, third-party encroachments, code interpretations and analysis as it pertains to the design of Midstream Facilities.

What You'll Bring

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ENGINEERING

  • Ability to independently conduct line sizing calculations, pipe support load analysis, and nozzle load stress (static and dynamic) evaluations per applicable codes and standards.

  • Specialist in code interpretation of Gathering, Transmission, and Distribution systems

  • Facilitate base-line pipeline assessments including HCA, EFRD, AC, CP, and Class Location Studies

  • Conduct Horizontal Directional Drill and Bore Stress Analysis and Design

  • Facilitate Geotechnical Investigation and Field Studies

  • Produce hydraulic fracture capacity studies.

  • Conduct pipeline buoyancy calculations and buoyancy control technique

  • Yield hot tap and stopple specifications.

  • Review and approve site development and crossing entity permits.

  • Conduct API 1117 In-Service Pipeline Lowering Stress Evaluations

  • Encroachment Studies including API 1102 Road & Railroad Crossing Calculations

  • Technical review/ acceptance of pressure testing activities including MAOP/MOP validation.

  • Pipeline Route selection support

  • Alignment Sheet review and technical support

  • Knowledge of standard manufacturing methods (machining, grinding, welding)

  • Knowledge of materials engineering, metallurgy or related.

  • Independent review of project schematics, PPFDs, and P&IDs

  • Conduct impact reviews to evaluate the effect of proposed development and construction activities within vicinity of pipeline right-of-way.

  • Perform pipeline stress analysis associated with encroachment activities; including, but not limited to:

  • heavy equipment, roadway, and railroad crossings over existing pipeline.

  • Perform seismic vibration analysis of proposed seismic survey operations, blasting operations and construction induced vibrations activities near or within pipeline right-of-way.

  • Expert in the application of the following codes/standards:

  • Title 49 CFR Parts 192, 195

  • ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8

  • DELIVERABLE MANAGEMENT

  • Interface with private and governmental agencies, third party owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and potential partners to define project parameters and proposal scenarios.

  • Coordinate and communicate project-specific mechanical deliverables with team members of all disciplines.

  • Research, review, and design integration of Company Standards, Municipality Requirements, and Regulatory Codes as it pertains to project deliverables.

  • Review of site-specific geotechnical reports for purposes of site development

  • Perform independent QA/QC of drawing deliverables.

  • Review other discipline deliverables to ensure mechanical design is properly executed and aligns with project objectives.

  • Perform field related work to obtain design pertinent information as needed.

  • Review and respond to project RFI’s throughout project-life.

  • Review third-party vendor drawings to ensure compatibility with intended mechanical design.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • GENERAL

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Select candidates are required to participate in an in-person technical interview.

  • Extreme attention to detail, process orientation, and relentless focus on accuracy with a sense of urgency towards project objectives.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to establish priorities among drawing deliverables.

  • Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to work independently or with engineering and design teams of other disciplines.

  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently shift priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written as well as presentation skills

  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering

  • Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas

  • Experience in the following software/programs:

  • CAESAR II

  • AutoCAD

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in midstream energy or petrochemical sector
