Manufacturing Engineer Houston, TX

Summary:

Provide Manufacturing Engineering support and guidance for Southwire Houston plant. The individual will coordinate continuous improvement initiatives, cost reduction projects, capital project justifications, project timelines, provide project management, work measurement, and lean practice implementation. This individual will work to ensure that process modernization & improvements are made to help exceed operational performance objectives.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead Lean events to improve value streams utilizing Lean tools such as 3P, Kaizen events, improving OEE, improving takt time, Poka Yoke, theory of constraints, level loading, or others to eliminate all forms of waste.

• Provide Lean training to site employees and identify and support manufacturing lean initiatives.

• Drive and track cost-out and capacity growth initiatives relative to improvements projects.

• Lead capital and non-capital improvement projects may include new equipment requests and justifications.

• Work with manufacturing teams and equipment vendors to specify new equipment and support old equipment.

• Maintain cycle times and machine rates for the production floor (time studies). Change Bill of Materials to update as needed.

• Understand standard cost and perform cost analysis for new products, product changes, and product rationalization.

• Work with a variety of systems including but not limited to SAP.

• Gather, analyze, and evaluate ideas from manufacturing to improve or develop new functionality within materials management or production planning.

• Develop and maintain accurate and current training documentation for SOPs, drawings, new employee onboarding and other standard work documentation as needed.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.

• Strong knowledge and expertise of engineering methods and concepts.

• Must have strong analytical, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

• Knowledge and experience implementing Lean tools improvements.

• Must possess strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• 2 – 5 years of experience required.

• Must be able to work well on cross-functional teams.

• Must be detail-oriented with the ability to think critically and logically.

• Must have excellent software skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, SAP and Solidworks
