New York Power Authority Gas Turbine Mechanic II in Holtsville, New York
Perform mechanical/electrical maintenance and planning of 150MW Gas Turbine Combined Cycle Flynn Power Plant and the 50MW Brentwood Gas Turbine Power Plant. Maintains high voltage switchgear and switchyard power equipment. In addition, works alone as Operator of Brentwood Plant, a 50MW Gas Turbine, Power Plant. Actively participates in Safety administration and NYPA wide committees. Actively uses Maximo planning and work order tools. Provides ability to analyze complex technical problems and execute solutions to the same.
Perform advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair of plant equipment. .
May perform certified welds while performing repairs or fabrication of piping or structural systems.
Operates and maintains high voltage power switchgear in expert and safe fashion.
Perform heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and combustion turbine generator (CTG) inspection as per one day outage requirements and document findings.
Supervise contractors during contracted equipment maintenance.
Check inventory for required job materials, research parts/materials on all plant equipment, generate purchase request or stock issue for material needed for work orders within budget guidelines.
Ensure operation of Brentwood Gas Turbine Power Plant to meet safety, environmental and load requirements.
Work in operations/ technical services and purchasing/warehousing to support plant objectives.
Compile, compute, evaluate and report engineering information to assist engineers. Recommend action on plans and procedures, develop equipment and material specifications.
May serve as member on site safety committee and may represent facility on NYPA wide technical committees.
Performs required safety walk downs and safe job observations for hazard assessments.
Responsible for the shipping and receiving in the Flynn warehouse.
Perform site security duties at Brentwood including escorting visitors, monitoring security system cameras, checking vehicles through gate, and performing detex security rounds.
Is a member of plant fire brigade. Respond to plant oil/chemical spills. Responsible and trained to act as first responder to injury, environmental, or fire emergency, First AID/CPR/AED.
Perform minor maintenance of facility, administrative tasks, and functions such as snow removal, warehouse deliveries, painting and general housekeeping.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to read blueprints & electrical diagrams and schematics and troubleshoot electrical equipment by testing circuitry and repair same.
Computer and electronic skills including Digital Control System (DCL)/Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) understanding.
Ability to research parts/materials on all plant equipment, interview vendors and select materials based on quality and pricing versus work order requirement.
Expert mechanical and electrical skills to perform maintenance.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Maximo and/or SAP.
Proficient knowledge of gas turbine, steam turbine, and power plant maintenance and operations.
Demonstrates advanced ability to plan and execute assignments.
Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
Able to work independently and supervise technical contractors.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Requires expert knowledge of a combination of two or more of the following skills: power plant electrical maintenance, power plant mechanical maintenance, and power plant operational competency.
Minimum of ten (10) years as Mechanic/Electrician in power plant environment.
Technical education and/or additional technical certifications preferred.
Welding certification preferred.
Valid NY State driver’s license.
Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations.
Must be able to perform physically demanding work while wearing a respirator.
