Under limited supervision, with significant latitude for planning or laying out of working details, with responsibility for results, must be able to perform work of significant difficulty involved in the installation, provisioning, and technical support of all types of telecommunications equipment, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:
Perform telecom circuit provisioning.
Perform telecom circuit issue resolution.
Perform telecom system hardware installation.
Perform telecom system moves and changes.
Perform telecom system outage resolution.
Execute orders effectively and efficiently.
Be proficient in the use of test equipment, such as Volt-Ohmmeters, RF Power Meters, Frequency Counters, Communications Service Monitors, Optical Power Meters, Transmission Impairment Measurement Test Sets, T-1 Test Sets, DS-3 Test Sets, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers.
Plan, layout, and perform work assigned in a safe and efficient manner.
Direct work of crew members, instruct and train other employees.
Minimum education required of the position:
Two year Associates Degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering or Have at least two years of equivalent work/training experience in a related field.
MUST BE EEI TECH TEST RECOMMENDED
Minimum experience required of the position:
- Tech II: 4+ years' experience in at least three of the following areas; voice system support, two-way radio system support, fiber optic transmission system support, microwave radio system support, or AC and DC power plant support. Must have worked for at least 1 year as a qualified Communications Serviceman 3rd Class, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classification.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Be willing to learn the Company's safety rules, be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid.
Be willing to obtain working knowledge of Company's practices and standards as related to work.
Have practical working knowledge of electrical circuits and equipment.
Be able to read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
Be able to perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety.
Be willing to learn Company's electrical and mechanical tagging rules and requirements for a qualified switchman.
Satisfactorily complete all necessary and mandatory training requirements associated with the position
Have practical working knowledge of Motorola 800MHZ P25 phase 2 system
Desired: IP Transport and Routing protocols, MPLS and Carrier Ethernet fundamentals
Desired: Ciena Service Aggregation Switch Hardware and SAOS
Any certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position
Be able to maintain automobile and truck driver's license, TWIC card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.
Desired: Network Certifications (CompTIA, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper, etc)
Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.
Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.
Able to work extended hours in support of overtime or emergency work including callouts.
Good hand-eye coordination, physical dexterity, and color vision.
Successful completion of the EEI TECH test.
