Job Description

Mission Statement

Core Responsibilities

  • Project engineering duties include the use of technical competence to determine the discipline scope-of-work for a project and support required from other engineering disciplines.

  • Prepare advanced planning documents, scoping documents, budget requests and appropriation documents.

  • Prepare detailed specifications for projects. Meet with vendors and customers to optimize the proposed design.

  • Perform economic evaluations.

  • Establish project schedules.

  • Provide support to Station Maintenance, Operations, Purchasing and Construction Departments for the procurement and construction of projects.

  • Supervise both in-house and out-of-house design efforts.

  • Analyze existing and new installations or structures.

  • Respond to occasional emergencies on a 24/7 basis.

  • Prepares facility physical arrangements, engineering cost estimates, reviews physical schematics, and physical construction drawings.

  • Participates in preparation of budgets, appropriations, scoping documents, concept reviews, design field walks, cost reviews.

  • Conduct and participates in field evaluation/analysis of field equipment or system misoperations, prepares failure analysis reports and other analyses as may be required.

  • Assist user with engineering service request (ESR) initiation, review and follow-up.

  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering And 2 years of full time work experience, to include one year of applicable engineering experience - ASSOCIATE ENGINEER A (1H) Requires work in the field of electric or steam generation, building and structure inspection, or design of mechanical, electrical, civil, or controls systems. Must have familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, NEC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have an understanding of the environmental issues that impact projects. Knowledge inspection and repair methods, construction methods, and cost estimating required. Or

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering And 3 years of applicable engineering work experience. Passing grade of E.I.T (Engineer-in-training) test preferred - ENGINEER (2L) Requires work in the design and analysis of discipline specific items such as boiler design and operation; electrical circuitry; distributive or PLC control philosophies; or concrete, steel and masonry structures. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact projects. Knowledge of evaluation, inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required. Or

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering And 8 years of applicable engineering work experience. Requires NYS PE License - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H). Requires unsupervised execution of project support in the discipline specific requirements for 2L. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact steam projects. Knowledge of evaluating inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required. Or

  • Master's Degree and a Bachelors degree in Engineering And 6 years of applicable engineering work experience. Requires NYS PE License. SENIOR ENGINEER (2H) Requires unsupervised execution of project support in the discipline specific requirements for 2L. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact steam projects. Knowledge of evaluating inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required.

Required Work Experience

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelors degree in Engineering or higher
    • Minimum of 2 years of full time work experience to include one year of engineering work in the field of electric or steam generation, building and structure inspection, or design of mechanical, electrical, civil, or controls systems.
    • Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, NEC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc.
    • Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact civil projects.
    • Knowledge of structural inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required.
    • Computer skills required to include proficiency in Microsoft OUTLOOK, WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT.
    • Must have strong customer service instincts.
    • Must be well organized, detail oriented, able to render sound business decisions, and have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
    • Requires a high regard for personal accountability and understand the critical importance of commitment to excellence.
    • Must be able to promote a positive work ethic in support of the Company's Corporate Values, possess a high energy level and have a demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace.
    • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the demonstrated ability to effectively interact with personnel on all levels (management and union).
    • Must be capable of supervising out-of-house consulting engineers.

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

  • -Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel within service territory ( 5 Boros and Westchester ).

  • -Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions.

  • -Must be able and willing to climb stairs and ladders.

  • -Must be able and willing to work in a generating station environment to include noise, heat, confined space, tall structures etc.

  • -Must be willing and able to wear the required PPE which may include full body fall protection, and other PPE as required ( hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, FR/Natural Fiber clothing ).

  • -Must be willing and able to participate in the company's storm response plan as directed.
