Job Summary

  • Coordinate, schedule, and direct the activities of the transmission line standards group. This group is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of transmission line standards that must adhere to the highest level of quality, reliability, and safety for use on new transmission line designs and modifications of existing facilities. Standards will include standard drawings, standard materials, PLS-CADD models with material requirements, written standard specifications, quality audit program for poles and towers, operating one lines and project filing.

  • Lead the antenna group to support the coordination, installation, and maintenance of various cellular antenna companies that are located on Dominion transmission facilities.

  • Lead the underground engineering team to support underground transmission line projects – this will include conceptual estimating and scoping thru construction and as-built documentation.

  • Other Miscellaneous Transmission Line Engineering responsibilities include:

  • NESC Interpretation as it relates to Line design

  • Unsatisfactory Material Performance Investigations

  • FAA Standards

  • Conductor Ampacity Calculations; Overhead and Underground

  • EMF Investigations

  • Bill of Material Applications

  • Standardizing Design Criteria

  • Peer Utility Best Practices through SEE Participation

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum 7 years of experience in transmission line design or related experience – with full knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes, concepts, and their application to problem solutions.

Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills.

Demonstrated ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Strong conflict resolution skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and develop relationships with other engineers, project managers, consultants, and material suppliers.

PLS-CADD Experience preferred

Micro station experience preferred

Strong planning and organizing and project management skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

Proven decision making skills.

In-depth knowledge of engineering theories and principles.

Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Demonstrated ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

Must meet ABET Engineer education requirements

Professional Engineering License Preferred

Education Requirements

Education Level: Bachelors Degree (equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education)

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
