Job Summary

Dominion Energy's Power Generation Business Unit seeks a Generation Network Specialist to support the Generation fleet (non-nuclear) with network devices, network architecture, and network security which are part of the Industrial Control System environments (ICS) and ICS cyber security environments.

This position is located at Dominion Energy's Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, VA (close suburb of Richmond).

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be able to provide the support noted below in accordance with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements, for the Generation fleet and its auxiliaries:

  • Oversight of ICS managed network device configurations (for example switches, firewalls, routers) and architectures in a high availability environment.

  • Manage, configure, install and support network devices and services for general ICS and ICS cyber security networks, including management of passwords and access methodologies.

  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.

  • Monitor regulatory requirements, industry trends, and potential impacts to Power Generation operating systems networks and produce risk communications.

  • Monitor system performance, connectivity, and resource utilization.

  • Provide strategic planning for ICS networks.

  • Troubleshoot network Switches, Routers, Intrusion Prevention Systems, and Intrusion Detection Systems, in a fast paced production environment. Serve as escalation point Subject Matter Expert (SME) for networking issues.

  • Follow change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in networking technologies. Act as a mentor to other staff members to broaden technical expertise across the team.

  • Serve as corporate liaison with the plant personnel to assure compliance with Power Generation Engineering and corporate policies, and procedures.

  • Architect network designs for ICS projects at plants and implement these designs as needed.

  • Provide network engineering expert resources in the disciplines of core routing, core switching, network security, network diagnostics, and load balancing.

  • Lead and/or support efforts to resolve data network problems and incidents through root cause analysis and study of potential network deficits.

  • Develop and manage inventory of network device information and configurations for all Power Generation network devices.

  • Address ICS-CERT identified vulnerabilities and resolve in coordination with Power Generation Regulatory Compliance (PGRC) and the plant cyber security personnel.

  • Participate as needed in cyber security event follow-ups in coordination with IT Incident Response Team and the plant cyber security personnel.

This position will require out-of-town and overnight travel. Travel may be required approximately 50-75% depending upon Station needs and project implementations.

This position will provide paid relocation assistance and will reimburse for interview expenses. A valid driver's license is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and education required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Seven years of experience in network design, management/programming and deployment, firewall configurations, network switch configurations, and network security.

  • Strong networking foundations and experience in the design of network design architecture, topologies, and security.

  • Experience with varied types of Firewalls, Routers and Network Switches.

  • Experience working in high availability network environments.

  • Experienced in assessing and resolving complex data network problems and incidents

Other requirements:

  • Strong level of understanding of IT/OT security principles, technologies and best practices

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment to identify errors, pinpoint root causes, and devise solutions with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to coordinate multi-project assignments and manage deadlines.

  • Microsoft/Cisco system administration experience.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;

  • Network Certifications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Industrial Control Systems / Programmable Electronic Systems (DCS and PLC) and third party datalink protocols (Modbus, DNP, ABPLC).

  • Cisco certification

Knowledge, skills and experience will determine salary level.
