We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

The Electric Transmission System Protection - Data Communications Generation Interconnects Engineering team is seeking a hard-working, motivated candidate to join our team. The successful candidate will support GMS integration for new renewable sites, develop RTAC HMI graphics for monitoring and troubleshooting, manage and complete substation SCADA projects, support Software Defined Networking for IEC61850 / IEEE6180, evaluate new communication devices, research new communication technologies and strategies, and implement the latest cyber security best practices. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are growing to meet the challenge of industry-leading projects and initiatives like interconnecting 5000 MW of solar generation in the next 5 years, the first utility-owned offshore wind project in United States federal waters off the Atlantic coast, STATCOMS, IEC-61850, and Net-Zero Carbon by 2050.

Job Responsibilities include:

• Reading substation one-line, functional, elementary, and wiring drawings to determine work to be done, identify possible design issues, and suggest alternatives.

• Create and update configuration files for a wide array of substation and generation communication equipment and software tools and utilizing several industry standard SCADA protocols.

• Test and troubleshoot communications and data quality/data integrity issues for both SCADA and Synchrophasor data.

• Human-Machine Interface (HMI) development.

• Using software-defined networking (SDN) to build modern, secure IEC 61850-based substation automation systems.

• Create/update configuration files for our Synchrophasor data devices.

• Use internal data historian applications to create graphs and reports to assist day-to-day activities and troubleshooting.

• Follow Data Governance guidelines for naming conventions, and team standards for configuration settings, and system design.

• Use internal application, Telescope/SAP, to track, manage, and update projects.

• Manage and update documentation for SCADA and Synchrophasor systems to communicate changes to other groups.

• Use Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Word, Access) to create spreadsheets, develop written documents, document processes, and develop graphics for presentations.

• Assist with the development and management of the Data Comm. Training Program.

• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Engineer I: 0-2+ years of engineering experience

Engineer II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience

Engineer III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience

Knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory;

Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

Effective decision making skills;

Computer skills and application of software programs;

Analytical and abstract thinking skills;

Problem solving skills;

Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems;

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills;

Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks;

Ability to work within a team environment.

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technologyand a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
