Department Overview

PG&E’s Natural Resource Management (NRM) Unit is comprised of two lines of business:

  1. Forestry and Timberland Management and Hydroelectric Power Generation Facility Vegetation Control

a. Forestry and Timberland Management: Involves the management of approximately 50,000 acres of PG&E owned timberland for a variety of beneficial public values will be taken into consideration, including the protection of natural habitat for wildlife, fish and plants, the preservation of open space; sustainable forestry; agricultural uses; outdoor recreation by the public; and historic values. Registered Professional Foresters, Certified Arborists, and Pest Control Advisors are dedicated to maintaining forest resources on PG&E's watershed lands as well as enhancing environmental quality.

b. Facility based vegetation control services for Hydroelectric Power Generation provides comprehensive vegetation management assistance to internal clients on PG&E Lands and right of ways including dams, canals, and powerhouses. Services include weed and brush control, brush removal, defensible space, hazard tree removal, pesticide applications, and vegetation management plans.

  1. Systemwide Facility (e.g. Substation, Gas, Telecom, etc.) based Vegetation Control Services, and

a. Facility based Vegetation Control Services systemwide provides comprehensive vegetation management assistance to internal clients on PG&E owned land, facilities, and right of ways including gas facilities, telecommunication sites and substations. Services provided include weed and brush control, brush removal, defensible space, hazard tree removal, pesticide applications and vegetation management plans.

Position Summary

This position will support the NRM unit focused on the Forestry and Timberland Management and Hydroelectric Power Generation Facility Vegetation Control line of business. The Land Program Manager will be primarily responsible for the oversight and management of vegetation management activities around hydroelectric generating facilities which is made up of a series of water conveyance structures like dams, lakes and reservoirs, canals, penstocks, etc. and other related facilities such as access roads, powerhouses, and support buildings. Vegetation management includes but is not limited to: hazard tree removals, tree trimming, pesticide applications including herbicides and rodenticides, weed abatement including string trimming and mowing, brushing, and other similar activities.

This position is also responsible for the oversight and management of PG&E’s hydroelectric watershed land in the Sierra Nevada mountains primarily located in Madera and Fresno counties. This includes but is not limited to: setting up and/or overseeing timber harvest plans, salvage operations, fuel break establishment and maintenance, plantation establishment and maintenance, and other general property management work.

Oversight and management of vegetation work at hydroelectric facilities and PG&E watershed lands involves: using professional and learned expertise to advise and provide input to internal and external stakeholders about vegetation or forest management work; manage contractors, their contracts and invoices; observe, plan, and execute vegetation or forest management projects; manage budgets and work flow; be a safety leader and perform safety observations on contractors; communicate and coordinate work activities with coworkers, including other departments within PG&E, stakeholders outside of PG&E, including agencies, and PG&E customers.

The position is hybrid, working from your remote office and assigned work location based out of Auberry or Fresno, CA.

Able to travel 25-50%. This includes field work and some occasional overnight travel.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $93,000

Bay Area Maximum: $139,000

&/OR

California Minimum: $88,000

California Maximum: $132,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate degree with emphasis in natural resource management, soils, environmental resources, project management, or related field, or equivalent experience.

• 2 years of experience in applicable subject area.

• Possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License

Desired:

• Registered Professional Forester

• ISA Certified Arborist

• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management or related field

• DPR Qualified Applicators License (QAL)

• DPR Pest Control Advisor (PCA)

• Project Management Certificate

• Proficient in the use of web-based databases

• Proficient in the use of GIS applications

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written

• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and achieve team goals

• Demonstrated ability in budget forecasting, planning and management

• Strong organizational skills

• High degree of self-motivation
