South Jersey Industries Accounting Lead in Folsom, New Jersey

Position Summary

A career in Accounting will provide the opportunity to prepare monthly financial statements provided to senior management and the Board of Directors; prepare of quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements and manage the internal and external review for these documents. This typically includes monitoring and ensuring timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, providing US GAAP interpretation and preparing technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner; assisting in the coordination of annual audit and quarterly review activities of external auditors; supporting corporate senior leadership with financial reports, data and analysis as needed. This also includes SEC reporting/compliance.Roles within Accounting are responsible for all accounting and financial reporting activities: including accounts payable, billing, inventory valuation, inventory control, budgeting and tax accounting. The Lead also manages their company’s financial and administrative functions in a manner consistent with generally accepted accounting principles and SJI policies & procedure.

Roles and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Directly supervises Accountant providing direction and leadership

  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations and variance analysis as part of the monthly and quarterly close

  • Research accounting issues, summarize and document findings

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and FERC

  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls

  • Formal financial statement preparation and review including footnotes in accordance with SEC rules

  • Ensure accuracy of regulatory filings (rate case support and Board of Public Utilities annual report)

  • Champion process improvements

  • Employee performance management and development

  • Independently ensures issues are driven to resolution

  • Directly supervises Staff members


  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years + of relevant experience, or;

  • Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Previous direct supervisory experience preferred

  • Knowledge of regulated utilities preferred

  • Working knowledge of GAAP

  • Knowledge of SOX Controls

  • C.P.A. Preferred
