LOCATION: Fayetteville, AR


Support and assist with various projects as assigned within the Company’s Operations Research team. These projects will be assigned consistent with the Company’s Internship Program with an emphasis on developing an understanding of the Company’s multiple business units and enhancing the intern’s ability to apply his/her education in a business environment.



  • Perform rigorous statistical and computational analytics in R, with strong knowledge of forecasting and predictive modeling techniques

  • Design and develop decision support systems, including mathematical and computer-based modeling and simulation

  • Create efficient R programming code and perform review and quality control checks on all programming code to verify accuracy, as well document all logic and processes.


  • Add knowledge and value to the team through collaboration and idea generation

  • Research and recommend new methods and technology applications to improve the team’s current and planned products


  • Maintain strong working relationships within the Operations Research team

  • Maintain supportive and respectful working relationships with all Black Hills Corporation employees and departments.


  • None required.


  • Working toward a Ph.D. or M.S. in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Data Science, Operations Research or Mathematics

  • Expertise in machine learning and statistical modeling


  • Expertise in statistical modeling and mathematics

  • Strong knowledge of R

  • Familiarity with database modeling and data warehousing principles with a working knowledge of SQL

  • Interest and familiarity with machine learning


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prepare and give presentations.

  • Attention to detail required.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business, employee and applicant information.

  • Participation in the Company’s Industry Orientation Experiences, which will include some travel.

  • Prepare and present a synopsis of experience with the Company at the end of the internship.
