Apply knowledge of Distribution, Transmission and Storage systems that encompasses all Gas Control operations. Evaluate, standardize and streamline gas control functions and processes. Facilitate PHMSA Gas Control compliance requirements that include annual reviews and reporting documentation. Maintain, communicate and distribute a 12-month rolling maintenance schedule for pipeline operations.

SALARY RANGE: $68,450-$102,750 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Attend project and maintenance meetings with the project management, field operations to provide input and track scheduling. Update reporting requirements and distribute to Gas Control, Shipper Services and Gas Supply groups.

  • Develop and maintain training materials and ensure compliance for Operator Qualifications and Control Room Management (CRM).

  • Ensure Operator Qualification (OQ) and training as specified by State and PHMSA requirements.

  • Assist with Control Room Management requirements, documentation and training. Stay current and implement, with guidance of the Gas Control Manager and Supervisors of regulations effecting Gas Control operations and requirements in the following areas: Safety, Fatigue management, SCADA Alarm, Management, Point-to-Point verification/testing, Records Compliance, Change Control Management, and Audit findings, resolution and evidencing.

  • Update and maintain the emergency notification and operational call out lists.

  • Support both internal and external customer inquiries pertaining to Gas Control related activities and provide management with performance feedback and documentation as required.

  • Establish, standardize and support an After Action Review (AAR) document format and process.

  • Effectively prepare and present both written and verbal technical information.

  • Develop and standardize processes between all Gas Control offices.

  • Analyze data daily, weekly and monthly reports to develop efficient methods to save time and costs associated with system operations.

  • Assist in preparation of data requests.

  • Work effectively in an environment of ongoing change with a strong sense of urgency, achieving results that directly impact company objectives.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with field personnel, engineers, pipeline contacts and other departments that work with Gas Control.

  • Stay current on the operation of gas transmission, storage and distribution systems and create gas control procedures, for gas controllers, in order to operate them at the most economical, efficient and reliable way possible.

  • Keep Gas Control Manager, Supervisor, Controllers, Gas Supply informed of any situation that may adversely affect the gas system.

  • Continue to stay proficient in the use of technology. This includes PC software, radio systems, SCADA system operations and any technology used within the control center.

  • Develop and maintain communication methods in effort to keep employees aware of department activities and requirements.

  • Perform other duties as required.


  • Participation in 24/7 gas control support as needed which includes nights and some weekends, and holidays. On-call availability for emergency situations required.

  • Flexible schedule as required to support and staff control room.

  • Display teamwork and cooperation with all members of the team and internal/external business groups.

  • Engage in activities and programs that will enhance personal development.

  • Participation in 24/7/365 gas control support as needed which includes nights and some weekends, and holidays.

  • Minimum of 5 years of gas operations, gas control, or related experience is required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must be Gas Control Operator Qualified.


  • Knowledge of gas distribution and transmission systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Self-directed individual with strong attention to detail and function independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong problem solving, technical and analytical skills with ability to multi-task

  • Fast learner, able to quickly grasp software systems. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint required.

  • Strong written and verbal ability to communication critical systems information to internal and external customers. presentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a variety of stakeholders.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Light work. The employee is continuously required to stand and walk. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Work environment: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Must be capable of up to 10% travel (e.g. 2 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.
