Arizona Public Service Summer Intern: Fossil Generation in Farmington, New Mexico

Responsibilities

FOSSIL GENERATION INTERN SUMMARY:

The APS Fossil Generation team is looking for outstanding Engineering students to participate in our 10-week paid, full-time Summer Internship Program. This program is designed to develop rising Juniors for future career success at APS by providing meaningful projects and work responsibilities while under the direction of experienced Engineers and Management. Top interns will be considered for the Fossil Generation Rotational Engineering Program upon completion of the internship.

If in person, our Internship Program starts at our Corporate Headquarters in Phoenix, AZ. During this first week you will be introduced to Fossil Generation leadership and given a broad overview of many of the facets of our business - including tours of our facilities, safety training and a fun networking event. Due to the global pandemic, workplace protocols and social distancing policies continue to evolve. We will keep Interns informed of our reintegration back into our physical workspace. If it is unsafe to be in person, the summer internship program will be virtual and performed remotely.

Once the orientation week is complete Interns will begin their assignment at one of our various locations in Arizona or New Mexico. In addition to your primary project responsibilities you will have the opportunity to participate in the structured Intern Program, which includes networking events, development sessions, tours, volunteer opportunities and a final presentation regarding your project and Intern experience. You’ll be treated as a full-time employee, with two paid holidays, and a fun-energetic atmosphere that emphasizes work-life balance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the engineering, design and project management of fossil generation power plant projects, under the direction of experienced Engineers and Management
  • Learn and apply sound engineering practices in the design, construction, and operation of projects to existing Fossil Generation Power Plants
  • Overnight trips to the power plants may be required

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar degree program
  • Academic standing of a rising-senior level (graduating in Dec 2021 or May 2022)
  • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training specific to functional area; minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Willingness to relocate to AZ / NM; travel may be required; valid driver's license may be required for specific assignment

GENERAL INTERN SUMMARY: Acquires broad experience in practicing and learning business, engineering, information systems fundamentals in real work settings. Intern assignment is for a short, temporary period of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate degree program. Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1) Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs. May assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.

2) Assists in research, business documentation, studies or technical reviews. Conducts analyses, investigations, verifications and summarizes results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.

3) Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.

4) Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.

5) Performs other related duties as required.
