    Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) is a progressive electric utility, member-owned cooperative serving Southside Virginia. MEC is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Member Support Representative in our Member and Energy Department servicing our Emporia District.

    The position is fast paced requiring multi-tasking skills while providing excellent customer service to Cooperative Members both in-person and over the phone with reliable information. The successful candidate will receive member payments and apply them in such a manner to assure accurate and timely accounting and thus enable the Cooperative to serve its members in a courteous, efficient manner. The individual in this position must establish and maintain outstanding relations with Cooperative Members, and provide excellent member service.

    Must possess or have the ability to acquire an understanding of general electric utility knowledge, Cooperative's policies, procedures and policy philosophy within a reasonable length of time as they pertain to the position. Will perform clerical duties and maintain files in an efficient and prompt manner ensuring the accessibility of Member records.

    Must be able to promote good member relations by providing accurate and timely Member accounting information through detailed level of work and ability to see through many different and unrelated processes and methods. Decisions regarding what needs to be done include the assessment of unusual circumstances, variations in approach, and incomplete or conflicting data.

    Must be capable of researching inquiries, requests and responding within the business day or in a timely manner as agreed upon with the customer (internally or externally).

    Must be capable of learning the service territory as a whole; demonstrate the knowledge of computer systems integration, utility practices, and routine operations. Must be able to evaluate and implement sound decisions in emergency conditions relative to service and to Members and personnel for maximum efficiency, effectiveness and security.

    Must be able to handle a wide range of projects and routine tasks simultaneously. Have the ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with Members, other employees, and the general public. Must always treat others respectfully and in a professional manner in support of the Cooperative's strong commitment to outstanding customer service.

    Must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings, participate in a drug-free workplace and have quality work ethic and safety record.

    MEC will provide training, along with competitive pay and benefits.

    A High School diploma or GED is required. An Associate Degree in business, business administration or a related field is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a public contact position such as cashier, receptionist, or banker, with exposure to payment responsibilities, collection activities, and customer service, is required. Electric utility experience preferred.
