Omaha Public Power District Substation System Administrator in Elkhorn, Nebraska

OPPD's Engineering department is looking for a Substation System Administrator to join their team!

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Administrate Energy Delivery integrated systems and related equipment, operating systems, user id and accounts to ensure its proper operation, in accordance with District policies and procedures as well as regulatory agencies such as NERC, FERC, etc.

  • Work with technicians to plan for and execute installation (including power and data cabling), troubleshooting, and maintenance of special purpose substation IED equipment as well as operational computing tools.

  • Ensure District compliance and adherence to OPPD NERC CIP and PRC Procedures.

  • Coordinate installation, maintain and troubleshoot software required for system configuration and monitoring, and for visualization and manipulation of operational data.

  • Work with Operational Technology resources to support basic system administration duties such as defining users, changing passwords, assigning roles, and etc.

  • Conceive, design, implement, and support technical solutions for new or modifications to existing Energy Delivery integrated system hardware and related systems for performance, maintenance, and cyber security needs.

  • Collaborate with Protection and Automation Engineering staff to integrate cyber solutions with protection, automation, and metering systems.

  • Support large and complex projects dealing with Energy Delivery integrated systems and their related networks.

  • Ensure backup and restoration functions can be performed as required on Energy Delivery network systems and related equipment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Possess an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to provide support on a 24x7 basis.

  • Ability to support District equipment at multiple locations.

  • Valid Driver’s License

Desired:

  • Related technical experience in the following:

  • Configuring and maintaining control system hardware/software, including event retrieval, and associated support systems

  • Configuring/Administrating control system user access accounts, time synchronization, and health monitoring

  • Configuring/Implementing control system cyber security controls, tools, monitoring, and associated substation systems

  • Experience as a Substation System Administrator or equivalent in a substation or operations environment.

  • Experience implementing NERC CIP Cyber Security Standards within a substation environment
