We anticipate the need for one HVAC Technician to be located at the Eau Claire, Skypark office, but will require travel to other sites within the NSPW region. The starting base pay for this position is $47.48 hourly. Standard working hours will be from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. However, these hours will normally be modified to work 10-hour daily Monday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Friday.

In this position, you will need to be self-motivated, work well on a team and have a positive attitude. A strong commitment to work safely, provide quality customer service, create customer satisfaction and to work productively will be very important to your success.

Responsibilities

  • Installation and removal of equipment and systems in Xcel Energy facilities, including HVAC systems, building automation systems and alarms.

  • Preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of these systems

  • Safely handle materials and equipment used in work performance

  • Perform work on interior and exterior of Xcel Energy Facilities

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license

  • 2 Year technical degree in HVAC, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration or equivalent education

  • EPA approved Refrigerant Handling Certificate - Universal Classification

  • Must have a high mechanical/electrical aptitude and a high level of learning ability to maintain proficient understanding of various types of building systems

  • Training or equivalent experience working with pneumatic, electric and electronic controls, building automation systems, chillers, boiler/burner service alarm systems

  • Must be able to accurately read and record information on PC applications

  • Requires participation in after-hour emergency callouts in all kinds of weather conditions

  • Must be committed to working safely and compliance with all company safety rules

  • Must be able to perform work in confined spaces and be able to lift and maneuver up to 60 pounds

  • Must be able and willing to climb and work at heights

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Must have good communication and teamwork skills

  • Willingness to travel and work away from home

  • Must reside within 20-mile radius of assigned service center within the first 6 months of hire

  • Must be able to perform work from ladders and scaffolding.

  • 6 years minimum experience in service work


Steps in Xcel Energy’s hiring process

  2. Candidates who successfully pass the assessment will be contacted to come in for an information session and interview.

  3. After attending our information session/interview, our Team Leaders will collaborate to decide which candidates are best qualified and offers will be made.

  4. Candidates who accept the employment offer will be required to pass Xcel Energy’s background check and drug test. This process can take up to two weeks before clearance is issued.

  5. After successful passing of the background check and drug test, candidates are ready to start the training class.
