Job Summary:

To provide engineering support in the area of System Planning to assure the Cooperative’s objective of providing reliable electric service at least cost.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Engineer I

  • Assist in the preparation of work plans, the annual System Load Forecast, and the Long Range System Plan.
  • Coordinate and design service extensions for Residential and Small Commercial Developments
  • Coordinate and design Residential Development lighting layouts.
  • Assist Lead Engineer(s) in the planning of the construction and operation of distribution systems and equipment for transmitting power from distribution points to consumers.
  • Provide engineering support for GIS, Staking, Operations, and Billing
  • Provide engineering assistance in Customer Choice proposals
  • Provide assistance in Coordination Studies, working with consultants, GTC, and Georgia Power
  • Assist in service restoration efforts during emergency outages.
  • Prepare specifications and estimates costs.
  • Knowledge of RUS Construction Work Plans and Long Range Plans beneficial.
  • Create and maintain engineering model and software

Systems Engineer II

  • Assist in the preparation of work plans, the annual System Load Forecast, and the Long Range System Plan.
  • Investigates power quality issues/events and provides technical assistance to Member Cooperatives and internal work groups under direct supervision.
  • Assists with development and use of computer programs/applications as needed, (power quality studies, fault studies, coordination, loss evaluations, etc.).
  • Develops protective relay settings as required for new substations and modifies other existing substation relay settings to maintain adequate system protection under direct supervision.
  • Provides technical support in power quality and system protection areas to other divisions and the member cooperatives to supplement their staff.
  • Monitors and analyzes outage data on a daily basis striving for a root cause determination of significant events, serve as point of contact to member system and neighboring utility personnel and report on reliability measures on a quarterly basis.
  • Designs distribution automation implementation, including relay settings, control schemes, automated switch placement, and capacitor placement.
  • Conduct system studies (load flow, short circuit/arc-flash, power factor, protective relays/device coordination and efficiency/system losses)
  • Assists in overseeing overall planning of facilities including load growth and overall system design.
  • Provide engineering support for GIS, Staking, Operations, and Billing
  • Provide engineering assistance in Customer Choice proposals
  • Creates switching operations on main distribution lines during emergency and non-emergency situations for load balances, service restoration, line construction, and substation work.
  • Assist in service restoration efforts during emergency outages.
  • Prepare specifications and estimates costs.
  • Knowledge of RUS Construction Work Plans and Long Range Plans beneficial.
  • Create, maintain, and perform electrical engineering system model and software.

Systems Engineer III

  • Prepares work plans, the annual System Load Forecast, and the Long Range System Plan.
  • Investigates power quality issues/events and provides technical assistance to Member Cooperatives and internal work groups under direct supervision.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Systems Engineer I

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with an emphasis on electric power electives.
  • Knowledge of relaying and system protection beneficial.
  • Displays professionalism within and without the department. Is positive, constructive and professional in all interactions. Accepts coaching and seeks opportunities to develop and improve both technical and human relations skills. Positively promotes and supports the company’s culture and values.
  • EIT required.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, concepts, practices, and theories.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven analytical and communication skills.
  • Must satisfactorily pass the EMC's employment physical examination and required drug screens.
  • Requires a valid Georgia driver's license.

Systems Engineer II

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with an emphasis on electric power electives.
  • Three (3) years of applicable experience in Distribution System Planning.
  • Knowledge of relaying and system protection beneficial.
  • Displays professionalism within and without the department. Is positive, constructive and professional in all interactions. Accepts coaching and seeks opportunities to develop and improve both technical and human relations skills. Positively promotes and supports the company’s culture and values.
  • EIT required.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, concepts, practices, and theories.

  • PE required.

Physical Demands (if applicable):

Work place is a combination of office and occasional fieldwork. Requires a good deal of walking and standing as well as deskwork. Must have the eyesight and manual dexterity to operate a personal computer. Must be available for after hour standby rotation.
