Job Summary:

Maintain, calibrate and repair plant electrical, instrumentation and control equipment. Perform trouble shooting activities. Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to effectively accomplish required maintenance in an efficient and organized manner. Optimize plant preventative maintenance program to meet OEM recommendations, regulatory requirements, and corporate maintenance philosophy. Responsible for maintaining logs, manuals, records, drawings and operating procedures in a neat and professional manner. Incorporates safe behavior into all activities and consistently complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures, helps to identify and eliminate or actively manage risks in all work activities.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Specialized technical knowledge with function.

  • Performs a variety of technical service/ support duties requiring specialized knowledge.

  • Routine and non-routine decisions with some latitude, but still subject to approval.

  • With limited guidance, prioritizes and executes responsibilities effectively for a single trade, group of related tasks or functional area.

  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain all plant electrical equipment as required to support plant operation.

  • Provide leadership and job coordination on critical repairs or projects, as well as routine activities as required.

  • Assist in requisitioning parts, supplies and vendor resource planning

  • Work with and direct contractors in outages or to support plant operations

  • Regularly makes decisions on non-routine or escalated technical issues.

  • Work periodically reviewed by others; work reflects solid performance of duties.

  • Completes tasks and resolves problems that require an ability to recognize deviation from accepted practices.

  • Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.

  • Works under general supervision.

  • Prioritizes daily activities to complete tasks/projects assigned by others.

  • May assist with orienting and training employees in moderately complex to complex areas.

  • Maintain a clean and safe shop and plant environment.

  • ICE Technician I is expected to qualify as an ICE Technician II.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Power Plant environment

  • This position requires the ability to safely use, handle and inspect equipment containing (and perform maintenance in close proximity to sources of), hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations.

  • The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above.

  • In the employee’s normal immediate work area, this position requires the employee to be routinely familiar with, and to appropriately respond to, the hazards identified above, including, but not limited to repairs on equipment containing chemicals, containment of chemical leaks, response to electrical interruptions, etc.

  • This response would encompass appropriate personal protection techniques, the following of safety procedures such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out procedures, and the following of environmental procedures.

  • This position requires the ability to perform these functions with little supervision.

  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma.

  • 5 years’ experience in industrial or military instrument/electrical maintenance. OR

  • 2 years’ technical school training and 3 years experience in industrial or military instrument/electrical maintenance.

  • Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts and variations in color

  • Valid state driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trade school, military service or technical training schools preferred

  • Experience with control systems, control valves, CEMs systems desired

  • Must have manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, pushbuttons, dials, valves and mechanical-actuating devices

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with an advanced understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics.

  • Demonstrate skills in the use of tools, test equipment and calibration appliances.

  • Must be able to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations.

  • Applied utilization of English literacy and basic math skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 80 feet and more; crawl through confined areas; lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 50 pounds from the floor to the waist.

  • This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50 pounds and to see, hear, walk and talk effectively. Must be able to wear an air purifying respirator and use other safety equipment as required.
