MidAmerican Energy Company Tax Accountant in Des Moines, Iowa

The tax accountant is responsible for all federal tax return filings and computations related to foreign operations (including but not limited to forms 1118, 5471, 8865 and 8858) monthly, quarterly and annual federal tax provisions on foreign source income, foreign withholding tax on dividend distributions and associated supporting work papers.

In addition, this position will be available for supporting the international tax group for purposes of preparing international tax returns and work papers. The tax accountant will assist in researching, analyzing and documenting international tax issues for purposes of preparing international tax returns and for tax planning. This position will prepare calculations to assist in analyzing international tax issues, and tax planning. This position will assist with the preparation of the international tax computations in the ten years plan. This position will assist with mergers and acquisitions due diligence.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)

Participates as a member of the compliance team to prepare federal income tax return forms and supporting documentation related to the taxation of income from foreign operations. (40%)

Participates in the preparation monthly income tax provision documentation (i.e., tax accounting) on foreign source income. (25%)

Support worldwide tax planning and forecasting for foreign platforms. (10%)

Support tax planning and forecasting for mergers and acquisitions due diligence. (10%)

Support tax planning and forecasting for proposed and new tax legislation. (10%)

Update the cash tax work papers for payments related to foreign income taxes. (5%)

Provide technical leadership to staff.

Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Bachelor's degree in accounting.

Four or more years of related work experience which is in tax accounting with a certified public accountant designation or graduate degree.

Strong knowledge of tax law and procedures, tax research skills, familiarity with various tax returns and schedules.

Strong accounting and financial statement knowledge.

Background with international tax preferred.

Strong computer software skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
