Research and develop strategic plans for Information Technology, focusing on technologies whose implementations are achievable in the next 18 to 60 months. (15-20%)

Develop strategic and operational plans for control, management and improvement of information technology capabilities and for ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives. Participate in the development of the corporate business and information technology plans. (10-15%)

Provide oversight of IT capital projects to deliver projects in adherence to BHE core principles.

Evaluate existing commercial arrangements within IT. Conduct research into ways to drive additional value and lower costs from third party contractual arrangements.

Lead or participate in significant IT diligence efforts for potential acquisitions. Develop detailed diligence reports identifying risks, opportunities and costs associated with information technology.

Work with the business community to solve critical business problems with information technology resources including hardware, software, databases and internal expertise. (15-20%)

Communicate with senior management and business units to assure that information systems and technologies are provided, improved and replaced as required. Provide leadership in the establishment of systems and technology development priorities for the company. (7-10%)

Identify resource requirements and provide or arrange for the provision of resources to respond to specific business needs. (5-7%)

Stay abreast of information technology developments as they relate to the company and the energy industry in general. (3-5%)

Negotiate service level agreements between information technology and internal customers and conduct periodic reviews to ensure alignment of customer expectations with information technology capabilities. (3-5%)

Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with hardware, software, consulting and employee resource vendors to insure that the company's systems are adequately supported and external influences on the company's systems are understood and used in planning. (3-5%)

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)

The senior IT consultant is responsible to assist with strategic planning for Information Technology. The consultant will provide market and strategic assessments of trends in information technology and leading utilities use of information technology. The consultant will develop strategic plans to implement forward-looking solutions for the company. The consultant will have oversight responsibility with respect to capital projects to provide management oversight necessary to deliver projects to BHE core principles. The consultant acting in a commercial and diligence role will participate in evaluating existing and new commercial arrangements to increase value and lower costs from third party contractual arrangements. This position also will also participate in IT diligence efforts for acquisitions.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six additional years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree).

Ten years of related experience in information technology, including five years supervisory/management responsibilities, senior management responsibilities desirable.

Solid understanding of IT project management, procurement, application development life cycle processes and procedures.

Understanding of various information technology components involved in delivering information solutions and supporting the business.

Basic knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Effective interpersonal skills and customer relationship skills.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Project management skills; the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects concurrently.
