MidAmerican Energy Company GAS TRADER I in Des Moines, Iowa
This position executes trading strategies relating to the unregulated retail services, by executing both physical and financial positions. The gas trader I is expected to maximize earnings through the execution of authorized trading strategies and operating within company risk policy and procedures parameters.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Monitors energy markets including hub and basis prices, fuel and transportation capacity to provide market based pricing for retail customer products, manage risk and develop hedging strategies. Understands market trends and the effects on strategies based on market trends. (25-30%)
Trades natural gas and derivative products in a fast-paced environment in accordance with the company's risk management policies and procedures. Provide assistance with natural gas physical and financial trading as needed. (20-25%)
Analyzes the physical and financial positions including forecasted customer load requirements and purchases; executes appropriate trading strategies related to such positions to maximize earnings. (20-25%)
Review and analyze transportation contracts to assure sufficient reliable and economical transportation capacity to serve unregulated retail services customers. Research and recommend alternate receipt and delivery points. (5-10%)
Stays abreast of retail supply procedures, practices and regulations in existing and emerging deregulated retail markets. (5-10%)
Develops and maintains external relationships with trading counterparties. (5-10%)
Assists with monitoring and understanding operational and hedging impacts of national and state regulations, LDC tariffs and pipeline tariffs. (5-10%)
Participates in market research projects. (5-10%)
Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)
Bachelor's degree in business-related field or comparable trading industry experience or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Advanced degree preferred.
Two years experience in the energy industry, which includes experience in one or more of the following: trading-related experience, pipeline/transmission marketing or similar commercial experience and/or utility transmission experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable industry certifications as required.
Position may require working nontraditional hours.
