Position Summary

Responsible for enhancing, implementing and performing the company’s commercial compliance program for Commercial Operations. Understands compliance goals, develops policies and business processes, manages IT projects and then implements the program including monitoring, reporting, training, and documenting results. Program scope includes compliance with a number of internal policies such as the Credit Policy, Commodity Trading Policy, and secret compartmentalized information policy. The program scope also includes monitoring compliance with important regulations, such as CFTC Dodd-Frank and FERC market behavior/market manipulation rules. Identifies key issues, reconciles results to ensure accuracy, develops effective reports, and provides results to Commercial and Risk Management leadership. Tracks resolution, documents results, and follows up on any required remediation plans.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform compliance monitoring process, identifying key issues, reviewing data, reconciling results to ensure accuracy, and periodically reporting out to Commercial Operations and Risk Management leadership. Maintains compliance records.

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and tools to reduce risks of releasing confidential compartmentalized information.

  • Serve as the company’s commercial compliance monitoring subject matter expert, developing and maintaining expertise and knowledge of best practices, the North American energy commodity markets, and the company’s Trading and Origination activities.

  • Understand company compliance goals, develop and enhance compliance monitoring policies and procedures to support those goals, design and manage IT projects required to support policies and procedures. Test and validate reporting enhancements.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of transactions captured in the company’s risk system, trends and changes to Trading and Origination activities, and resulting implications to compliance monitoring policies, processes and systems, reporting requirements and transaction characterization.

  • Maintain professional relationships across the company’s Federal and state regulatory affairs groups, Legal, Trading, Origination, Risk Management and IT.

  • Develop and manage the company’s commercial compliance training program.

  • Assist with compliance risk assessments and testing and monitoring of programs in accordance with regulatory expectations and best practices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 3 years relevant experience

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present recommendations to executive management.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Proven problem solving, analysis and evaluation skills to assess key business risks.

  • Ability to excel in a collaborative team environment.

  • Experience managing IT projects ideal.

  • Assertive in compliance matters, along with the ability to be conversant with traders/marketers using applicable terminology.

  • Strong investigative, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

  • Proficient in complex computer systems.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.


  • Paralegal experience or law degree

  • Experience in energy commodity markets

  • Familiarity with Dodd Frank Act reporting and anti-manipulation activities in a trading environment
