General Overview:

In this role, you will assume responsibility for leading the design and coordination of HVAC systems on assigned projects. The primary focus involves planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing the execution of Design/Build projects, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, equipment utilization, and safety objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design comprehensive HVAC systems (including ductwork, piping, controls) for design-build projects, adhering to local, state, and national codes, as well as recommended design practices, standards, and guidelines.

  • Proactively pursue and secure new business opportunities by cultivating and sustaining strong client relationships, delivering presentations to potential clients, and demonstrating a thorough understanding of proposed project plans, specifications, and contractual documents.

  • Develop project estimates, budgets, and schedules, contributing to project contract negotiations. Monitor compliance through participation in design and coordination meetings, job site meetings, and regular progress reports.

  • Attend meetings to coordinate design issues with clients and other disciplines, overseeing plan submittals for city and state reviews.

  • Conduct engineering reviews of shop drawings, track submittal progress, and manage distribution to relevant parties, including equipment vendors. Ensure compliance with specifications and designs.

  • Oversee drafting work for design/build projects and provide support to project managers on design-assist projects and coordination efforts for construction sites.

  • Manage administrative aspects of contracts during the design phase and assist in purchasing equipment and materials for design-build projects, ensuring adherence to design criteria.

  • Continuously enhance in-house design standards, specifications, quality programs, and contribute to business development initiatives.

  • Stay updated on the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code and other relevant codes, reviewing and analyzing HVAC-related code changes, and disseminating information to contracting and service departments.

  • Contribute to LEED projects, including documentation, project ranking and credits, analysis of mechanical systems, and participation in verification and construction activities.

  • Maintain a high level of competency in the HVAC industry through ongoing education, training, and active participation in industry-related organizations.

  • Conduct field surveys as needed to assess actual field conditions and ensure the designed system fits the given building structure.

  • Attend departmental meetings and social functions as required.

  • Undertake additional assignments as directed by management and potentially serve on company committees.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent 4-year degree. Professional engineering license or HVAC designer certification in the State of Wisconsin preferred.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in designing HVAC systems.

  • Experience in leading diverse project teams and projects.

  • Knowledge of and experience with the commissioning process for the total building; certification is preferred.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, NAVIS works, REVIT, REVIT MEP, or other relevant software. REVIT proficiency is preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Valid Driver's License.

Scope Data:

  • Accountable for a diverse range of project budgets.

Working Environment:

  • Normal office environment with frequent client visits, requiring personal vehicle travel.

  • Fieldwork on construction sites in various weather conditions, involving site surveys and coordination issue resolution with trades.

  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and steps on-site may be required.
