MidAmerican Energy Company Engineer II, Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer-System Protection in Davenport, Iowa
This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
The successful candidate for this position will be assigned to one of the following System Protection Department functional teams based upon qualifications and interest: Transmission Protection, Distribution Protection, Operational Data Analysis, CAPE Database Maintenance, Reliability & Compliance, Relay Projects or Telemetering, Control & Automation.
The system protection engineer determines protective relay and control schemes to be applied at electric substations. Works with substation engineering to develop capital budget estimates and authorizations for expenditure. Performs power system overcurrent coordination studies, power fault analyses and investigations of electric system operations. Determines settings for electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor-based relays and associated communications devices. Recommends settings for substation feeder reclosers and assists distribution engineering with coordination studies and line recloser applications and settings. Develops design standards and recommends system protection practices. Provides technical assistance to operations personnel.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Provide protection engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system; focus may include planning and budgeting electric systems.
Provide technical support for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections.
Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports.
Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
The engineer II position requires one to three years experience in related engineering applications or other related industry experience.
The senior engineer position requires five years of successful industry experience as a practicing engineer and an advanced technical degree or registration as a licensed professional engineer in a state served by MidAmerican Energy Company, or eight years of successful industry experience as a practicing engineer without an advanced degree or professional engineer certification.
For the principal engineer position, the successful candidate must have f ifteen years of industry experience as a practicing engineer with experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
