MidAmerican Energy Company Engineer I, Engineer II, Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer - System Planning in Davenport, Iowa

Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

This position in the system planning and services department reports to the Director, system planning and services. Responsibilities include determining options to serve new large loads, supporting the transmission planning process to meet Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations and North American Energy Regulatory Corporation (NERC) standards, reviewing and providing input on studies prepared by the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator (MISO), performing generation interconnection studies, administering distributed generation interconnections and performing distribution system studies. This position also develops analyses of the MidAmerican electric system, including power flow studies and long range plans; completes economic evaluations of capital investments, recommends electric system projects and expenditures and assists in coordinating the electric engineering capital budget; participates in inter-utility and regional transmission planning and the development of interconnection agreements and provides planning support for electric system construction and operation, including technical support for voltage and power quality analyses. This position also prepares stability analyses, production cost analyses and other system assessments as required. This position also prepares reliability analyses of electric systems including generation, transmission and distribution facilities; makes recommendations on appropriate equipment spares; prepares reliability based standards and recommends improvements in electric system planning methods to reflect state-of-the-art reliability methods.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)

Provide engineering services for the planning and budgeting of facility additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's electric energy delivery system. (45%)

Provide engineering project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, planning, planning estimates, planning specifications, engineering reports, consulting engineering contracts, and engineering presentations. (20%)

Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (20%)

Provide engineering-based planning assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%)

Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (5%)

Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.

The engineer II position requires one to three years of engineering experience.

The senior engineer position requires f ive years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer.

The principal engineer position requires fifteen years of successful industry experience as a practicing engineer with experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
